Recent Cape Hatteras National Seashore vacation rental reviews

We really enjoyed our stay at Kenmare after Christmas and for New Year’s 2025 however we can only give Kenmare 4 stars since the home needs some TLC. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect based on reviews posted from past stays about the cleaning, age of the house, kitchen appliances, and furniture. Some previous reviews were negative, and many were positive. So going in with tempered expectations, I will say we all were pleasantly surprised. We loved the house and the location! There was plenty of space for 4 adults and our dog. We enjoyed watching the ocean from the back windows and decks. Couldn’t ask for a better location and view. The house definitely shows its age and could use some TLC and attention, but overall, we would definitely stay here again. Below are our lists of Pros and Cons from our stay at Kenmare. Pros: - Location, location, location!! Restaurants and stores. 5 min from Food Lion. - Smelled and looked very clean when we arrived. - The location and view were perfect. - Great beach in front of the house with a short walk through the dunes. - Great gathering spaces for meals, games, etc. - The bedrooms and furniture were just fine for our stay. - Fully loaded kitchen with lots of utensils and cookware. Oven and microwave worked great. - Smart TV so you can watch your streaming apps. - Washer and Dryer appeared new and worked great for our needs. - Liked having 3.5 baths. - Furniture on the back decks was in good shape. Sat at the table and chairs a couple of mornings and had breakfast. - Amazing sunrises and beach view from the primary bedroom deck and kitchen/family room deck. Cons: - House could use some TLC for sure. Interior painting, exterior clean up, side of fridge rusted, loose outlet plugs, loose ceiling fans, etc. - WiFi isn’t good at all – used our cell phone hotspots to run TV apps and work on our laptops. House WiFi was so slow it was unusable at times. - Only a handful of channels on the TV – we didn’t expect HBO, etc. but not even a ESPN or Weather Channel is included!? Thank goodness it was a Smart TV and we could stream via our cell phone hotspots! - Lights were out on both back decks and needed replacing. Lights under the house where you park were out or very dim. All outdoor lighting needs to be inspected, and bulbs replaced. Very dark out at night without some lighting. - The hot tub was hot, ~ 104. However, the lights and jets did not work. Basically, you just sat in hot water with no jets or bubbles. Bummer! - Wood on all back decks and walkways are very weathered and in need of replacement. Was hesitant to walk on them without shoes so we wore our slides or shoes. Will get splinters if you go barefoot so be careful. - Stove a little dated and hard to work with.
