Where is Troutdale?

Situated at the convergence of the Columbia and Sandy Rivers, Troutdale was first settled in 1850 and named for the local trout raised by Captain John Harlow at his country home. Today, this quaint city lies just 12 miles east of Portland International Airport, 16 miles from downtown Portland, and 42 miles from Government Camp on the slopes of Mt. Hood. Troutdale is also only 47 miles from Hood River, separated by a scenic driving route that cuts through the Columbia Gorge.

Things to Do in Troutdale

As a magnet for boating and fishing, Troutdale offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Sandy River is one of the preeminent sources of steelhead in Oregon, while the Columbia River is known for its salmon, steelhead, walleye, bass, and sturgeon. Planning to launch your own vessel? You'll find a dock at Chinook Landing Marine Park on the Columbia River, as well as a public boat ramp on the Sandy River at Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site.

Dating back to 1911, McMenamins Edgefield is of one of the most unique outdoor concert venues in the Pacific Northwest. Today, this 74-acre parcel of farmland is home to gardens, on-site artists and craftsmen, a movie theater, several restaurants, a brewery, a winery, and a series of popular concerts on the lawn each summer.

Guests at our Troutdale vacation rentals will find a number of options for shopping and dining, conveniently located right in town. Spend a day perusing the antique stores on the West Historic Columbia River Highway, pick up a few gifts at the Columbia Gorge Premium Outlets, or grab a table for dinner at Troutini, a local favorite known for its refined dishes and refreshingly casual atmosphere.

Day Trips from Troutdale

As the starting point of the Historic Columbia River Highway, Troutdale has been known as the western gateway of the Columbia Gorge since 1916. No matter if you're a hiker, a cyclist, a climber, or a waterfall enthusiast, this stunning region is well worth a day trip or two!

Looking for iconic views? Don't miss the plunging roadside cascades of Latourell and Multnomah Falls, the short trails to Elowah and Wahclella Falls, or the aptly named Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks. Drive a bit further east to reach Hood River, where you'll find some of the best windsurfing in the world and sweeping views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams.

Many of our Troutdale vacation rentals are ideally situated near the alpine meadows, forests, and ski slopes of Mt. Hood. Open year-round and lovely in all seasons, the Mt. Hood Scenic Byway leads to Mt. Hood Skibowl, the Timberline Lodge and Ski Area, as well as some of the mountain's most beautiful hiking trails.

Explore one of the most beloved natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest and see all that Oregon has to offer when you stay in one of our Troutdale vacation rentals. Invite your friends, pack your bags, and book today for a getaway that you'll remember for years to come!
