After several insanely busy months, we booked the Lazy Lumberjack Cabin for a quiet Thanksgiving. Everything was beyond our expectations. The house was welcoming, the property was gorgeous, and everything was as described. Our family of five had plenty of space, and we really enjoyed the surprise of the gingerbread house kit and Thanksgiving sides. The hosts were responsive and we look forward to booking again soon!

Absolutely loved the location. It was more remote than we even thought it would be. Our kids are 13, 11, and 8, and they had the best time exploring the wooded areas around the property, reading on the back porch, relaxing in the hammock, and kayaking on the quiet pond (lake). We had a camp fire one night, too. We came in the Fall, and just walking along the roads in this area right around the house was gorgeous. The kayaks were in great shape and they had plenty of life jackets for us. There was also a sizeable canoe for kids who don't want to paddle for themselves. It was too cold to swim in October, but the water was absolutely crystal clear! The house was very comfortable. The only thing to note on the layout is that the bathrooms are on the 1st and 2nd floor, whereas there is one bedroom on the 2nd floor and two bedrooms on the 3rd floor. So, 3rd floor guests must be prepared to do stairs: especially in the middle of the night if they need to use the restroom! The heater was small and I was skeptical at first, but it warmed the whole house very comfortably and quickly. There were also plenty of portable fans - so everyone could have one for sleeping: something us Texans are very used to! We would absolutely stay here again: a little slice of Maine heaven! It was quiet, secluded, cozy, and a great place for our family to make some lasting memories! We miss it already!

This was a great cabin. Keep in mind that this is a cabin - no AC, no washer and dryer etc. but it was clean and cozy and had all the basic amenities . The private beach area was wonderful. This cabin is way off the beaten path and it’s a good 15 minutes from the main road to Acadia. We had some problems getting locked out. The back door has a different code than the front door. Make sure you find out both codes from Vacasa as the door locks automatically.

Visiting Acadia National Park

Known for its coastal cliffs, inland mountains, and striking sense of wildness, Acadia National Park is one of the Northeast's most beautiful natural treasures. There's something for everyone here, whether you're more inclined to simply stroll down the historic carriage paths or challenge your hiking skills on the Beehive Loop Trail. Horseback riding is a popular pastime here, so book a trail ride with a local guide and experience the stunning scenery from a different point of view.

Be sure to carve out one of your vacation mornings to watch the sunrise from the top of Cadillac Mountain, whether you choose to hike to the top or drive. Acadia National Park is well-known for its animal inhabitants, so keep an eye out for moose, bald eagles, foxes, and much more. While the park has a secluded feel, the lively town of Bar Harbor is just around the corner on Mount Desert Island, which means you're never far from the aspects of civilization that tend to come in handy---like dining, groceries, and gas.

Stay in a Bar Harbor vacation rental

If you want direct access to the park, there's no better spot than Bar Harbor for booking an Acadia vacation rental. Bar Harbor is a hot spot for lighthouses, with six well-maintained ones throughout town (be sure to bring your camera along!). While the area offers everything you could want during your vacation, it's still certainly quite a small town, and the laid-back atmosphere and quaint local businesses reflect that. There are a local winery and brewery that should be on guests' must-try list, as well as plenty of fresh seafood served daily at many spots in town.

Other rental locations in the Acadia area

You've got plenty of options when it comes to Acadia cabin rentals, and Southwest Harbor is another spot that's well-loved. Known by some as a yacht-building epicenter, a vacation rental in this cute Mount Desert Island town gives you easy access to the park, as well as nearby sights like the Cranberry Isles. Stay on the mainland in a Lamoine vacation rental, or make your home base about an hour north in Dedham if you're planning on visiting Bangor, too.

Discover the magic of Maine with a visit to a beautiful Acadia vacation rental!
