Ocean Dunes Resort is located in Kure Beach the furthest point east on the North Carolina coast, about 12 miles from the charming city of historic Wilmington. The properties are located alongside the Atlantic Ocean and at the Courtside location just across the street and just a few steps from private beach access. Those on the Courtside are arranged in a horseshoe design and feature a beautiful pool in the center, surrounded by lush landscape. The amenities of Ocean Dunes include three outdoor pools, an indoor pool, and private beach accesses scattered among the oceanfront buildings for both guests and residents. There is a clubhouse with a workout center, tennis courts, a playground, and many paths for walking or jogging. Just a few feet up the road are the Civil War battlegrounds at Fort Fisher. The grounds run alongside the ocean, with beautiful live oaks, and incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean - keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of native deer! Further along the road, you'll find the North Carolina Aquarium housing many species native to North Carolina waters. The aquarium features an incredible alligator exhibit, a large shark tank, and experts who swim and play with the sharks. There is also a touch pool and many other sea marvel exhibits, an ideal destination for families.
A little further up the same road is the ferry to Southport, a charming North Carolina seaport village known for its antique shops, seafood, and architecture. Author Jonathan Sparks has written several novels set there. While Kure Beach tends to provide a quiet and private setting, Carolina Beach, a mile north toward Wilmington, is filled with many colorful seasonal activities. Boasting a carnival-like atmosphere, it is beachy and fun, with shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. The lovely port city of Wilmington, a short drive from Pleasure Island, provides an opportunity to explore the history of the Cape Fear region. There are many examples of pre-civil war architecture, tree-lined streets, art galleries, boutiques, and an amazing assortment of restaurants! Don’t miss Thalian Hall featuring live theater productions, often featuring current Broadway productions. Local comedy clubs showcase local talent, film personalities, and some of the best standup comedy in the country.
