Officially incorporated in 1785, the town of Standish was named for Miles Standish, the military leader of the Plymouth Colony. Today, this community is bordered by the Saco River to the west and the southern shores of Sebago Lake to the east. Standish includes four distinct population centers—Standish Village, Steep Falls, Sebago Lake Village, and Whites Bridge. This charming and historic area is located just 18 miles northwest of Portland, 31 miles north of Kennebunkport, and 56 miles north of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
With its lengthy shoreline on Sebago Lake, Standish attracts year-round visitors to explore the deep, clear waters of this beloved landmark.
