Our familie enjoyed this spot next to the Sandy river very very much. We had a relaxing 2 nights stay there
Charming old cabin in the woods by a river. Quiet, private. Comfortable living room, nice porch to drink coffee And listen to theRiver which was a short walk away. Lighting in the cabin was a bit dark, felt smaller than that the pictures. had a very cramped shower and a tight enclosed bedroom but an open loft. Two TVs. Not a lot of sun light in the cabin or surrounding it cabin was very shaded with trees. Not much space to sit by the river and look out. Well stocked kitchen but could’ve use a blender.
It was the perfect Birthday Weekend getaway. We didnt have to travel far and the peace and tranquility were perfect. We live in the mountains so that was not much different, but to just relax without dogs barking or chores calling, it was delightful
I have dreamed of staying at Zoe’s Cabin for six years, and it was even better than I thought it would be. I felt like I had come home to my childhood and the trips my dad took us on.
This little cabin is a majestic weekend waiting to happen. It took a little doing but we were able to toddler proof it, but we did bring our own baby fence for around the propane stove.
The place is simply amazing! A real log cabin, with wood everywhere. It’s like taking the Steiner Cabin Tour, and then getting to stay in one of them. It looks and feels like a museum of Mt Hood Cabins, complete with knickknacks and antiques. Not to mention the beautiful surroundings and the river.
This is a great cabin for a solo or small family and is in a beautiful setting with a fantastic fireplace and river view; I would love to come in the summer as it has its own little beach by the river
My daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at this wonderful cabin! I would recommend to all!
I absolutely love this cabin, but it has some scary draw backs. First, the stairs are treacherous! There is no railing on the last four steps when going down. This is the most dangerous part of the steps because they make a sudden angular turn and are very steep. This is not a kid safe or senior friendly cabin. Unfortunately, I feel down those last four steps and twisted my foot. There was no railing to grab for support. I banged the back of my head on the wood steps as well as bruised up my right side. This left my foot injured, swollen and sore and I was unable to use my new snowshoes as planned. Totally bummed me out. In addition, I would strongly recommend a grab bar or railing for the bathroom shower. The short, but tall clawfoot tub is not easy to get in and out of as it's quite high off the ground. The tub is too short to take a bath in, but works great as a shower. I would really recommend a grab bar for assistance for those over 50 or under 10. In addition, the throw rug in the bathroom is very slippery and one could seriously slip on it while getting in or out of the tub and get a bad head injury on that cast iron tub. Those are the two worries I had with this otherwise adorable cabin. I plead with the owner to fix those problems for fear of a much worse accident than mine. In fact, get rid of all the slippery throw rugs and use only throw rugs with a rubber backing. On the small side, a mixing bowl, a glass roasting pan and a pie plate and some tongs that work would be helpful for those of us who love to cook and bake and use the oven. I would replace the Coveted and only cast iron pan with a lodge pan that is replaceable and not a collector's item. For heavens sake, buy a $14 nonstick pan once a year for cooking eggs.
Aside from those items for improvement, the place was beautifully decorated and full of love and kindness. I would recommend to anyone, once those grab bars/railings were in place. My right foot is still black and blue and tender but I am grateful it was not any worse. Thank you for reading. I hope I do get a kind response because I would like to return there, once I knew the railings were installed.
We're sorry to read you had some disappointments, Judy. That's not what we hope our guests experience while staying with us and appreciate the opportunity to improve. The stairs are very old and certainly not designed for guests with mobility issues. There is a rail on both sides, from top to bottom, to assist with guest safety. A new rug is purchased for the bathroom, and kitchen inventory is getting restocked. thank you!
Loved this rustic cabin and location on the river! What everyone is looking for in a vacation place.
Loved atmosphere, closeness to River, fire place. Shower was a safety challenge and bedroom door needed a screen
Beautiful vintage log cabin, right on the Sandy River! It was great! A little tricky to find, but so worth it.
This place was a dream! It was so peaceful to be able to lay in a hammock and hear the river babble. The cabin is so cozy, and while a bit aging, has everything you would need. The location is also wonderful for adventuring in the Mount Hood area.
Cabin was adorable! The history of the cabin made it even more special. We sat outside every night and marvaled at the trees and listened to the river. We loved every minute we spent there.
For my husbands 65th we chose to visit Mt Hood. We wanted a charming classic Mt Hood cabin and found exactly that with Zoe's Cabin. We thought it was a perfect base camp for our 4 day adventure. Very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking gear. (but lacked salt and pepper so we donated ours to the cabin) It was VERY hot while we were there so we elected to sleep in the downstairs room...grateful to have something to choose from. The surrounding property was well cared for, the chairs on the river made a perfect cocktail hour spot, the back deck was perfect for our after dinner reading of our riveting vacation novels (while we listened to the river!) and the BBQ was clean and ready with propane. The cabin is a very easy drive (1hr) from PDX. We completely enjoyed the historic charm of this old beauty and hope to return again someday. Biggest compliment we can give is that we were NOT ready to leave when our 4 days were up.
This was our third stay at this cabin and we wouldn't hesitate to book it again. Cozy, comfortable, and the sound of the river is very soothing. That said, the stairs to the loft are a bit scary at night and need better lighting. Also, we needed a mixing bowl and a large casserole dish but couldn't find either. Bring your own spices, cooking oils, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, etc because the kitchen is not well stocked.
The setting is perfect, in the woods with the Sandy River out the back door. Great getaway.
Its a very nice rustic cabin. It has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The great old stone fireplace with a roaring fire is the perfect way to end your day.
This cabin is the real deal. Amazing location, gorgeous building. Rustic but comfortable. I didn’t leave the grounds at all!
We enjoyed Zoe's Cabin. My first impression was that it was a lot smaller than it looked in the photos, but we were not disappointed because it is very cozy and was still as advertised. Our favorite part was sitting on the porch and listening to the water drinking our coffee. We had to go to the store to get cooking oil, tin foil, coffee, etc. So bring everything as if you were camping. There was a fire ban during our stay so we did not get to enjoy all the amenities that we would have wanted to but its fire season. We were disappointed with not being able to watch a movie both upstairs or downstairs. We tried to put on a VHS and a DVD downstairs and the correct cables for sound/video are missing or the incorrect ones are hooked up so it did not work. We then tried to put on a VHS upstairs and the player could not read it and made an awful noise the whole time. So then we chose another VHS and it was missing, so we switched to DVD- it could not read, so we put another DVD and it glitched too much and was just unwatchable. So at this point, we gave up, the movies were a nostalgic touch but impractical. We spent too much of the evening trying to get that to work which was really annoying. We went for peace, to unplug, and to get away from the noise, but a nice cozy movie in a cabin isn't too far off the grid so it was a bummer that didn't work for us. We expected the movie issue to be fixed by the time we arrived because we read a couple of previous reviews that noted the issue and the owner saying it would be fixed for the next guest- they were not fixed. The cabin itself is great, the doors are difficult to open/close but no big deal. We really enjoyed reading the Timberline Lodge book and other coffee table books as well as the history of the cabin. Upon arrival, we walked to the river and were greeted by two friendly poodles: Charlie and Pierre, and their friendly owner who gave us hiking recommendations. It's a wonderful area to stay in, we went to the timberline lodge and trillium lake. The bed was comfortable, there's plenty of pans and cooking utensils. The cabin was actually kept cool so fans and AC were not needed. It's a great place to get away, it is close to neighbors so it's not totally secluded/private but everyone was friendly and kept to themselves. Overall we enjoyed it.
Hi, Alicia! We appreciate you staying with us at Zoe's Log Cabin and are so glad you decided to leave a review for us. We do apologize for the disappointments you experienced and want to let you know we have corrected the entertainment situation in the home. Thank you!
The river current is fast, and was unable to swim, but the scenery was impeccable. Great decision to go with this place over a place with a hot b (although winter time would've changed that decision)
If you're looking for a rustic cabin getaway, this is your spot. Quaint cabin close to hiking and within driving distance to great views of Mt. Hood.
This is the cutest cottage. The decor and vibe is so special. We loved the quiet and tranquil location, snoozing in the hammock and watching movies on the VHS!
We loved our stay, especially our time relaxing by the river and in the hammock. We had amazing weather. We did try to throw in a movie one night as we were going to bed and it seemed that both the VHS and DVD player upstairs are not working, but we really didn't care. It also looks like the checkout instructions in the house do not match the app, including a discrepancy in the checkout time (we were told 10am on the app, but everything in the house says 11am) and instructions for dishes (there is no dishwasher) and laundry (there is no laundry on site). Might be helpful to update those. Otherwise, we plan to be back!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for the confusion regarding the checkout instruction. Due to the covid pandemic we did have to change our checkout time from 11 AM to 10 AM to give our local team additional time to clean. We have notified our local manager regarding the instructions inside the home and have asked them to update them for future guest. We also, have notified them. that were issues with the VHS and DVD player upstairs not working. We apologize for the inconvenience. We do hope we have a chance to host you again in the future.
This cabin was perfect. The river so close, the hammock ready for a mid afternoon nap, trails to walk, and places to ride your bike. I will definitely be going back soon...
Loved everything about this cabin on the Sandy River!
Perfect for a weekend getaway. The cabin was charming, clean and close to golf, restaurants, and hiking. Thanks!
Beautiful cabin and very peaceful space
Our trip was wonderful! Cozy cabin just on the river. The fire place was wonderful and relaxing. Has a great selection of VHS and DVDs. Extremely comfortable king upstairs and the tub is big enough to squeeze two people in. Very clean home! Lots of great hiking locations near by. Close to nearby grocery store and resturaunts.
Was a great stay. Close to bars, food and the Mountain. The only thing it was missing was a hot tub.
We loved this small cabin on the Sandy River. Wonderfully maintained, ideally located and such a delight. Especially like the NO wifi- and being unplugged and away from it all. Cozy, cozy, cozy. We will be back!
Perfect spot on the river and 20 minutes from Skibowl
My husband and I have been 3 times now. We love the secluded nature of the cabin ; it’s nice to completely disconnect, cozy, and lovely inside. Honestly being on the back porch and seeing and hearing the river is my favorite thing! Just a couple tiny things they could improve upon; instructions for the DVD and TV were not clear I think they were fairly old instructions. There were about four different remotes and several DVD players it was all very confusing luckily I had a very smart husband who was able to figure it out; the proper DVD player wasn’t even connected. So updating that would be helpful. I would also love it if they had teas at the cabin, maybe hot cocoa. It would be a nice added touch. Also please add a recycling bin inside:)
Will deff be back!!!!
We apologize for the issues with the DVD player and tv. For sanitary reasons, we do not provide any tea, coffee, or hot cocoa. We do look forward to hosting you again in the future!
Clean house and great location
Beautiful, comfortable old cabin, beautiful location. Well equipped.
Private, quiet street with a beautiful view of the river! Cozy house.
Beautiful view, perfect cabin -- and great bed!
This is the real thing. A log cabin on the river. Paths. Peace and quiet. Everything you need. Lots of character. See the history of this cabin and others by Henry Steiner at the Cultural Center in Government Camp. Not for rambunctious kids.
There is so much to love about this cabin, and this place. Its a treasure, peaceful, romantic, beautiful, overwhelming. I never saw a forest like this before visiting this place.
Great location, fire pits were awesome, in general a great trip.
Stairs are treacherous- would like to have known about these prior to booking.
The riverfront location is ideal. Cute and cozy for 1 or 2 people.
The sound of the river and cozy woody fire place made for the perfect restful weekend we had hoped for! Thank you so much for creating such a warm inviting space. We highly recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a quiet place to enjoy the feeling of being away from the hustle bustle of city life.
Stayed the weekend with some friends and we had a blast. An amazing cabin that has that real rustic feel that a "log cabin" at the mountain should. Awesome fireplace and view of the river as well. We will definitely be back!
This is a real log cabin. Great fireplace, Great back porch to sit and be dry in a big rain storm. Comfortable beds.
Wish there was a hot tub!!!
But it's probably out of courtesy to the neighbors that they don't have one. Highly recommended.
The Zoe home was incredible, it was truly a log cabin with all the amenities. The fireplace was spectacular going to the bedroom upstairs comment was like trying to climb into a tree fort. What a great time I highly recommend this property... The river running behind the house is the Sandy River which is incredible to sit and watch the water run by. I wish it snowed while we're there that did not happen... Chris the property manager was more than helpful... Thanks, I highly recommend the cabin two people that want to go up and experience a once-in-a-lifetime property!!!
This was our third visit to Zoes Cabin. Wonderful place to relax and unwind. Absolutely charming cabin!
Zoe's cabin was quaint and perfectly placed along the Sandy river. The cabin was filled with charm from the warm fireplace to the video selection upstairs. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen functional, and the outside environment so serene and peaceful. This was our first visit to Oregon and we are certainly planning on visiting again.
We absolutely loved everything about our 2 night stay at Zoe’s cabin. It was perfect size for family of 4. Clean. Well equipped kitchen. Games, books, movies! The river and creek were the ultimate playground for my 2 young boys. Loved it❤️!!
We first stayed at Zoe's Cabin October 13-15, 2012. Even managed to find our old journal entry at the desk. Back then it was just the two of us. This time, we had our 3 year-old with us. She loved it! We loved it! Quiet and no one around. A wonderful escape from Portland.
We had a great time at Zoe’s Log Cabin. It’s close to everything you need and yet quiet and secluded. The cabin and grounds are beautiful, clean and comfortable.
The coziness and the scenery were rop-notch. My family of four spent a happy week in this cabin in the forest. The kids loved the hammock and the adults loved the river view. The kitchen had most of the supplies one would need for a weeklong stay; some tupperware or an extra mixing bowl or two would have been welcome. The stove really needs replacing - the burners didn’t all seem to work, and the ones that did were very crooked. There were plenty of towels (dish and bathroom) and sufficient basic supplies like dish soap and extra trash bags. There was a large VHS collection, but the one movie we tried to watch was busted. After that, we stuck to Monopoly, which worked just fine. The house is close to Mount Hood and the Fruit Loop so we had plenty of day trips to supplement our hiking activity. There is also a full grocery store just a mile away. Overall, we were pleased with this vacation rental.
We appreciate receiving this feedback and have purchased new tupperware and a mixing bowl. Thank you!
Nice getaway right on the river -
This cabin was set deep in a wooded area, set on a wonderful rushing river. We loved sitting by the river, laying in the hammock and having coffee on the deck each day. We saw bald eagles fly by several times and enjoyed watching the ducks on the river. The only reason for 4 stars - instead of 5 was that the bathroom was so very tiny, not really easy for some to use. We also were visiting Oregon during a hot spell, and this house did not have AC, only fans. The main bedroom upstairs would be the best room to stay in with a king bed, but was too warm so we stayed in the tiny downstairs room. The bed was very comfortable, but the room was just big enough for the bed and not much else. Finding places for our luggage was not as easy, if you had a house full of people, that could be an issue. We did notice that the stars to the upstairs were a bit steep too, so navigating them in the dark might be an issue for some. But it was perfectly located for the sights we were planning to see, and was such a peaceful place to stay.
Beautiful piece of history hidden in the Oregon Forest.
This place was just perfect. It is quiet and secluded enough to relax and get away from normal life. The cabin is certainly rustic but has charm.
Still very close to town for groceries and incidentals while far enough away to feel like you are out in the woods.
Sweet accommodations! We had some issues working the gas heater, and were able to contact support right away. The property manager is very friendly and helpful! Very relaxing cabin by a beautiful river; a perfect Cabin in the Woods experience.
My wife and I loved this cozy cabin. Nothing like waking up and seeing a running river outside of a picture window from your loft bedroom. Also, the fireplace chimney going up through the center of the cabin makes for a warm and inviting space upstairs and downstairs. The back porch is also extremely relaxing. Fantastic little spot within 30 minutes of Mt. Hood and many hiking trails.
Zoe's cabin although it has a some neighboring houses is truly quite and blissful. My husband and I just went for our 3rd time and it was wonderful. the view from the backporch and the view of the river with its hypnotizing sound is enough to lull you into meditation. I turned off my phone, we read, we drank coffee , had yummy snacks and easy heat up meals we brought , and sat by the river. We enjoyed a movie marathon with their vintage VHS collection. I DO have several suggestions as these are things I think everyone would agree are that added extra touch, and really would keep people coming:
Get some dvd's please; while the VHS is vintage and fun I think you'll find a wider range of audiences prefer DVD'S .
We were yearning so bad for a cup of tea; we forgot to bring some and searched the cabin but came up empty. If you had a box of sampler tea and hot cocoa available on the counter....that would be a BIG plus.
a bathmat in the tub. It is old fashioned and beautiful but awkward to get it, awkward to stand in and hard to get out of. Both my husband and i almost slipped getting in..a plastic mat in the tub would solve that.
In the future a better mattress upstairs.....that is the same one since we have been coming in 2008, it is super uncomfortable.
These are all just things that would spruce it up and give you longer lasting customers; but we will still come even if you had none of it, simply for the ambiance. thanks and see you again next year!
We are very pleased that these guests have returned annually to enjoy this beautiful home with the view of the river running by. The mattress upstairs has been replaced and I hear it is super comfy! Now our guests can sleep in comfort. Thank you.
Very peaceful and relaxing. It was an amazing time and fantastic cabin.
We loved this rustic little cabin. It was charming and cozy and the location along the Sandy River and in the trees was stunning. We will definitely go back and would love it in any season.
We stayed for two nights and loved the location, the beautiful cottage and all the extras like the VHS player.
I dont know how to say this without sounding crazy but be forewarned of a possessed Toy Story Woody doll sitting on bookshelf - it started talking on its own at 4am in the morning on our last night. We took the batteries out. It was weird.
But other than our haunting it was fabulous!!
Such a quaint space. The view of the River from the living room was so calming I didn't want to leave the room. Wonderful personal touches that made us feel like we were staying in a family cabin not a rental property. Would love to come back again.
The new heater they put in to replace the old wood pellet one, gets insanely hot, there should be a protective grill over the glass decorative element. My daughter burnt her hands badly on it, the equivalent of touching the inside of a fully heated oven. There is super teeny 'caution hot' writing on it in the bottom corner that I didn't see, of course. The burn gel was sitting in front of the first aid kit rather than inside it, so we clearly aren't the first to have a burn from it. Other than that, we love Zoe's and will know for next time!
We apologize an injury was acquired while staying here. The pellet stove has been replaced with a propane stove and does get quite hot since it is a main source of heat. We will add signage to help make guests more aware of this. Thank you!
Charming cabin, great location! We really enjoyed our December stay and will be back. The VHS library is unrivaled, the fireplace delightful, the furnishings spot on. Cant wait to stay during the warmer months, too. Highly recommended!!
We love this cabin and can’t wait to go back.
This was a great cabin for a getaway. The pictures are accurate and the cabin is charming. There is a hammock near the river that is not in the pictures which was appreciated. There is no air conditioning (there were fans for use), internet, or cable (both downstairs and upstairs TVs had DVD and VCR and only upstairs TV had a few local TV channels). House is well maintained and was cleaned very well prior to stay.
A little niche of heaven in a relaxing enjoyable spot.
Nice and quiet and I loved watching the sunset 😁
We loved our stay st this cabin. It was so wonderful to sip coffee (& wine!) on the back porch while gazing at the river! We loved the fire pit and chiminea for evening fires too. Gorgeous property!
We had a short stay at Zoe's Cabin. The cabin was spotless and all kitchen supplies were very clean. The view from the living room and the back porch to the river was fabulous and relaxing. The stair rail was a work of art from a true craftsman. We had just three small problems but we found a way around them. It did get very cold at night in the cabin but the supply of stove pellets was generous. We found the size of the cabin to be much smaller than the picture images allowed us to think it would be. Still, a lovely place. We will stay here again.
This was probably one of the nicest cabins I've seen in my life. It's so rad. There are other cabins surrounding it, but it's positioned so that it's very private once you get inside - the front of the cabin actually faces the river. This was a killer trip. I'll for sure do it again.
This cabin was everything we hoped for. The pictures are definitely accurate. It felt homey and was super relaxing get away.
So many triggers to memory of the past here. From the architecture to the curated wall hangings, kitchen utensils and textiles. It's more rustic and charming than the photos could capture. Minus the tv and the pellet stove one would feel comfortable and content in a time capsule not knowing what year it was 1930 or the present. I would strongly recommend if you want to tune out and breathe the mountain river air.
Love Zoes, love raiding the VHS collection!
After this past election week we needed a fast getaway from the world and Zoe's Cabin was perfect. It is even better than the photos and the location couldn't be more convenient. It was 50 minutes from our door to the cabin. LOVED EVERYTHING!
We will be back.
A beautiful cabin, easy to find and 40 minutes from Timberline. It had everything we needed and more. Thank you.
Really nice place to stay in to get away from your routine. Enjoyed staying here and the view is amazing. Favorite part of all is the river right behind the cabin.
This place is amazing!! One night just wasn't enough. We will definitely be back. We came in the fall, which is so beautiful, but Spring/summer would be amazing, too!!
We really enjoyed our stay in this sweet cabin!
Zoe's cabin was perfect for myself and fiancé, we absolutely loved the rustic feel and the property. The river is beautiful and right outside the backyard. We had plenty of cooking utensils, spices, bedding, towels and everything else we could have needed for the week. Maintenance was quick to come when we ran out of pellets for the stove our first night. VHS movie selection was also great! We loved the location and would definitely return!
The property was quaint and homely with beautiful surroundings. the house itself is beautiful .. tonnes of charm .. there is a full kitchen with all pots, pans, dishes .. the works
more vcr casettes than you know what to do with .. although it took some ninjaing to get the tv to play them
all in all i wouldnt change a thing
When making reservation for this property ask management is development construction is over. Otherwise there is very heavy noise, you would need to bring aurpleg.
Even the local Steiner cabin authority at the Mt. Hood Community Center and Museum considers Zoe's to be one of the better Steiner cabins. It has the perfect log-cabin ambiance while being unique in its design and finish. It has just enough modern convenience that you won't feel like you're isolated in the wilderness, but not enough to intrude on the rustic character and charm.
Our stay (our 5th!) included both rainy and sunny days, and the cabin completely satisfied whether it was the sound of rain on the roof and logs burning in the fireplace, or shafts of morning sunlight streaming through the surrounding trees and onto our coffee cups on the little dining table, with the rush of the Sandy River in the background.
Of all the places in the world we've visited, none is more restful and restorative than Zoe's.
We were looking for an authentic log cabin with rustic charm and just enough modern convenience... we found it in Zoe's cabin. Classic wood burning fireplace, rushing water steps from the back door, and plenty of room for a family. I'm not sure when we'll venture this far west again, but when we do, we'll be sure to look up Zoe's cabin!
This is a lovely Steiner cabin, and we stayed here the weekend of the Steiner Cabin tour, which was fun and appropriate! The river is just steps away, and it's a short distance to all the fun Mt. Hood has to offer. .
Some comments on earlier reviews- the upstairs VCR must have been fixed, it works fine. There are about 100 tapes. The shower pressure is low but was enough to shower just fine.
The minor negatives- the cabin is not secluded, there are neighbors very nearby, and the first night we were there someone was blasting loud music. The water is extremely metallic- bring your own for drinking! The stairs to the upstairs bedroom are steep, and the only bath is downstairs. The cabin, of course, has no air conditioning, but there are currently no fans. We stayed in the summer in 90-degrees-plus temps and the cabin was very warm- fans would be a big help. But, even with these, we loved our stay.
This is a true cabin with the best of rustic and comfort combined. The beds were comfortable, the not-too-far river view peaceful, the classic movie collection unbeatable and definitely worth a stay to be in this wonderful Classic Steiner Cabin, well-known in Pacific NW local history. There are other properties close by but as long as you know this, you'll want for very little in a forested cabin experience in this little, adorable cabin.
The cabin is beautiful, and, in spite of its being close to other cabins, it feels very private. The sound of the river in front is very soothing, too. Close to many good hikes, as well. Well worth it!
My favorite cabin on Mt. Hood. Always a joy!
Great spot to spend the weekend. The cabin had everything we needed and provided a clean place for us to relax in between activities. Would recommend!
This place was better than expected - cozy, comfortable and charming!
A beautiful spot to spend some time near Mount Hood. The cabin is beautiful and the woods are private. A great place to unwind. Would return again, we stayed one week. There was a problem with the pellet stove but once that was repaired the cabin was warmed nicely. We have allergies and it would be nice if housekeeping switched to an unscented laundry soap.
This cabin is spectacular. We had an incredible vacation here. We will definitely come back as oftwn as possible. The pellet stove did not work well but we had the fireplace. (Bring wood, they only supply two pieces). The only other issue was that the VCR/DVD player did not work.
Great area, nice views and cute cabin
We loved the cabin!! Great view of Sandy river... Not enough firewood, but bring your own. I would rent it again in a heart beat:-)
Zoe's cabin is very relaxing and serene. It's the perfect place to enjoy the quietness of Oregon, or just hunker down and watch some movies and relax with the warm pellet stove roaring . There are some small things that could be updated like the VCR upstairs is broken, there is a DVD player downstairs but no DVDs. The one puzzle they have there is missing pieces. So some extra games and puzzles would be wonderful. And a new VCR or maybe some DVDs . Beyond that good experience and would go back
Beautiful cabin, wonderful location. Would definitely stay here again.
We really enjoyed how rustic this cabin was and how it made for a very fun and relaxing time. We loved the setting and its location. We had some issues with how cold the cabin was upon arrival and also ended up being short on pellets for the pellet stove during our stay. But it didn't ruin our trip and we hope to return.
Cozy little cabin for a weekend getaway!
Our pellet stove broke on the first day of arrival, luckily we had some wood to stay warm. Although Management has been very helpful and handled the situation well.
We stayed at Zoe's Cabin for four days in early September and enjoyed the experience immensely. The cabin seems a bit rustic, but has all the amenities of home: indoor plumbing, a full kitchen, and heating! We were a little worried that we might be too hot since there is no air conditioning, but we needn't have worried-- the temps were wonderful, even downright cold at night! We loved hearing and seeing the river nearby, and the smell of the trees was heavenly. There are plenty of hiking trails in the area to explore if relaxing at the cabin isn't your thing. The only downside was that the water pressure was a bit temperamental sometimes for showering, but other than that, we loved it and would stay here again!
We had a good time while using this cabin for 3 1/2 days with the river close by and all that nature provides in a country setting. Our recommendation to all future residents when calling in advance make sure they inquire regarding the water pressure.
We have stayed here twice and will be back. Cabin is very charming and they've made the whole property very inviting. From the hammock in the trees to the chairs on the sandy beach by the river, the wonderful covered porch and the fire pit areas (which we sadly couldnt use due to current fire restrictions) all of it is great! A wonderful getaway!
We delighted that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate you sharing some of the highlights of your experience in this lovely cabin! We look forward to your return.
We loved this cabin! We've stayed in 5 star resorts that were not kept as clean as this cabin was! Rustic, well stocked and close to many surrounding day trips. Only one thing would have made this perfect, and it's minor... Replacing the shower curtain more often would make the small shower area feel cleaner... Thank you for a great experience!
I think that the rentals are way over priced, and the photo's for this cabin made
it look much larger than it really is. Very cute cabin though..
We are delighted to see that you found the cabin to be so cute, and we will take your comments under consideration. The cabin really is darling with a great riverfront location. Thank you!
A real treat to stay in this vintage cabin. Beautiful craftsmanship, cozy size. We so enjoyed the unique atmosphere & the river out the back door. Mt hood not too far away. Hiking trails everywhere. Great location.
We were 5 in all. Beds very comfortable as well as the pillows. The location of the cabin is great. River only a 2 minute easy walk. Deer in the yard.
BBQ clean and ready to go. Grilled the best Rib
steaks and hamburgers. Will be back.
Thank you for your fantastic review! We are so happy you had such a great time here! We look forward to working with you again in the future. Thank you for choosing Vacasa!
Staying in a Henry Steiner cabin is like going back 75 years and living in the past. Everything about Zoe's Cabin exceeds one's expectations and the forty yards or so to the edge of the fast-flowing Sandy River puts it even further over the top.
This is the most adorable cabin ever. We stayed for two nights in February and the only thing we missed was snow. The cabin is an easy drive from Portland (about one hour) and despite being about fifty yards from the highway, it is silent once you're on the property. You'd think you were in the boonies but you are actually near modern conveniences. There is a lovely river that you can see from the living room of the cabin. We enjoyed the pellet stove and fireplace, and plan to return in warmer months so we can also enjoy the outside amenities (back porch, fire pit). The interior of the cabin is just the sweetest place you could imagine, and VERY clean. I mean, I dropped my knit beanie behind the couch and thought when I retrieved it that it would be covered in dust but it was spotless. (No dust is a great thing for this asthma sufferer.) Goodness, I don't want to give away all of the awesome details of this place because, as I said, I want to keep it for myself, but I will say you will love it. Only one tiny drawback is the water -- be sure to bring bottled water to drink. Maybe it's the time of year we stayed but it tasted quite metallic.
We are so happy that this home was perfect for you stay! Thank you for this great feedback and recommendation. We can't wait for you to visit Vacasa again soon!
We were so pleased to find this wonderful little cabin. It was so warm, cozy and quaint with such careful detail to decor and cleanliness. We really enjoyed the history of the structure….as well as the beautiful location near the Sandy River. It was only a short drive away from Timberline Lodge…where we had 2 sunny days of early spring skiing!! This was truly, an authentic log cabin experience that we will always remember. We stayed warm with the wonderful pellet stove that was very easy to operate. Evenings were spent peacefully reading, watching TV and relaxing in front of the beautiful stone fireplace. We cannot wait to return to enjoy many more vacations at this beautiful little cabin in the woods.
Thank you so much for your fantastic review. We are thrilled that you had such a wonderful time at this cozy cabin! It certainly has beautiful surroundings and we are glad that you could warm up by the pellet stove as well as the fireplace after days full of skiing. Sounds like special memories were made during your stay and we look forward to seeing you again! Thank you for sharing your experience and for choosing Vacasa!
This was one of the sweetest places we ever been to. It made us want to have a cabin of our own! The size is incredible for the price too. We could have spent another week there. So much fun and relaxing. :) our three year old loved the porch and yard!
Zoe's is the definitive log cabin, a charming escape, our favorite of all the places we like to get away to. Each time we stay we come back refreshed, rested, soothed, and counting the days 'til we can go back again.
We arrived at Zoes Cabin Saturday night with pork chops ready to grill. When we went to grill them, the propane tanks were empty. I called Vacasa, and someone was there within the hour with a full tank. I definitely did not expect that on a Saturday night!!--It is a cozy little cabin in a beautiful setting!!!!!!!
Thanks for the kind words, glad we got your tanks full right away and hope the chops turned out yummy!
This place was absolutely perfect. The cabin itself is lovely with all the woodwork and the river in the backyard. Great chairs and hammock to enjoy the trees and the river. It was a nice location for getting around the National Forest and close to Zigzag region of forest, and to Timberline Lodge. We also drove out to Bagby Hot Springs ~1.5 hrs away and that place was great. A little hippie, but truly worth the hike and the soak in hot spring water in an old tree :)
Thank you for this great review. We love hearing that you thought the home was perfect. The cabin is beautifully maintained, the location is excellent and exploring the area is so easy from this location. We hope you'll come visit again.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Zoe's cabin. The cabin has everything you need and more. The rustic style of the cabin helped create serenity and peace the minute we walked through the front door! Great stay.
Pretty much everything you'd want from a log cabin. Fire place was key. We were here on our honeymoon and enjoyed snuggling up by the fire. Don't forget Oregon is wet so pack accordingly.
This cabin is very clean, comfortable, and fun. Lots of windows. It's not as secluded as the pictures indicate but you are right up against the sandy river nestled under tall trees. There are other homes adjacent. I would have given it 5 stars but cannot for a few reasons. 1) the shower hardly works as there's practically no water pressure so the water just drips out. We brought this up and were told that 'we're aware of it but it is what it is and it would take a major plumbing renovation to fix based on the dated plumbing' 2) We were not at this cabin to watch tv but it must be noted that cable is only available upstairs. the downstairs doesn't get reception and only has a vcr. 3) The stairs to the upstairs loft are a dangerous spiral wood staircase. The steps are not evenly spaced and the only toilet is downstairs. must be very careful, not for young children or seniors.
All said, I would likely go back IF they fixed the shower. After hiking in the rain all day or skiing, having water drip on you is not an enjoyable way to warm up. My wife also has long hair and took her forever to get her hair washed.
All said, the place is really neat.
Thanks for your review. We're glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cabin and we really appreciate your review. This cabin has a great rustic feel to it but some of the challenges that come with the rustic charm is low water pressure.
My boyfriend and I LOVED our time at Zoe's Cabin! Its a little piece of heaven on earth! So cozy and set up to relax and enjoy the gorgeous views. We stayed for a week and wished we could have stayed even longer! We also got to meet Chris from vacasa while we were there and she was so helpful and friendly, I highly highly recommend visiting!
It snowed several inches the day we arrived at the cabin, so we were treated to a winter wonderland upon our arrival.
The cabin was so peaceful—the windows provide an expansive view of the quiet woods & river outside, and the pellet stove and fireplace kept us cozy all weekend. We cooked several meals in the well-appointed kitchen, slept like rocks in the flannel-dressed beds, and had fun spotting a new moose, bear, or canoe on the tablecloth/dishes/curtains/sheets.
Zoe's Cabin was a perfect base for our weekend of skiing and snowshoeing on Mt Hood. We would love to come back & enjoy it in the summer as well.
This cabin is very charming and the location along the river is very pretty. Very well kept over the years and the grounds are just what you want when staying in a cabin in the woods. We would probably stay here again, if we did, we would leave the kiddos with the grandparents.
Zoe's cabin is just what you'd dream a cabin in the woods would look like. The decor was great. The kitchen had the necessities for cooking most anything. However, we splurged and had dinner at the Rendezvous Bar and Grill, which is a short drive from the cabin. The food is amazing. I'd also recommend Wildwood park and trails which are almost across the main road from the cabin. Really beautiful experience.
This cabin is a dream, and I am counting the days until I can return. Everything we needed was already there - all you need to bring is groceries. You'll leave with a smile.
My husband and I decided to forego the hectic family gatherings this Thanksgiving (2013) and booked at stay at Zoe's cabin.
When I first saw the pictures I was instantly drawn and knew this was where we wanted to be. The cabin appears a bit larger in the pictures so we were a bit surprise (pleasantly) at how cozy it really was. We could not have asked for a better place to stay.
We fell in love with the bed (uber comfortable), the porch, the view from the living room…I really liked the pallet stove, never seen one before and it drove my husband crazy how I obsessed over the stove.
I just cannot rave enough how amazing a stay we had. And the surrounding are very small town feel, absolutely loved it.
We were ready to barricade ourselves inside the cabin and never come home.
Thank you Zoe's cabin for the most incredible Thanksgiving of my life!!
That may be the best and most well written review we have ever received! Thank you very much for your kind words and enthusiasm for this great home. We are very pleased that you enjoyed it so much and hope to welcome you back again sometime soon.
We came up from Portland for 3 nights with friends. The cabin was wonderful, wood burning fireplace, pellet stove, well furnished kitchen! It rained the entire time we were there, but we hiked anyway. Even stayed an extra night. It was fun to watch and hear the river. Perfect setting, great fun, great friends. Would recommend it highly, we are planning another trip this summer. :)
We are really happy to see your review and are glad that you were able to extend your stay an extra day. Thanks again and please do come visit us again soon. Maybe next summer as you say.
It was amazing I loved the feeling of the cabin. I didn't want to leave my stay was too short!
Thanks for the lovely review of your stay with us.
This is a lovely place to relax out of the city, far enough away to feel like a getaway but close enough that the little ones don't have to put up with a long car ride. The cabin itself is lovely, the kitchen is better equipped than most vacation rentals I've been in (equipped for a cook, that is - there wasn't a fancy espresso machine - but for me, the measuring cups, baking dishes and cast iron skillets are much more important) and the location by the river is so peaceful. You can actually hear the rush of the water from inside the cabin! Most importantly, the owner's have managed to leave the property alone to keep it's original charm - We were pleasantly surprised to find a real forest floor surrounding the place instead of trimmed bushes and rows of petunias. The best thing for our 4 year old was the little sandy area by the river, it kept her occupied the whole time. We will be back!
Zoe's Cabin is an idyllic location to escape the crowds, the noise and the hustle of civilization and bask in the reverie of nature. The serenity and tranquility of the forest is complete with the sound of rain falling on the roof; the crackling of a fire in the hearth; and the compelling melody of the river in the background. It is a profound pleasure to step outside and smell the fresh pine air or the smoky aroma rising out of chimneys. We enjoyed a wonderful week here visiting many picturesque waterfalls, lakes and vistas plus of course Mt Hood.
Thank you for the fantastic review. We appreciate it a lot and hope to welcome you back again soon!
We booked this cabin last minute for our 1 year anniversary. The location and property itself exceeded all expectations. Every nook and cranny is quaint and cozy. The decor makes you want to curl up on the couch and never leave.
The river, hamock and porch outside are perfect for morning coffee/reading.
We'll be back for certain. Thank you, Zoe.
Zoe's Cabin was fantastic!
Treat yourself to a vacation to another era. Quiet and rustic cabin straight out of the 30's. It was a really nice experience to stay at Zoe's cabin.
If you're looking for the ultimate rustic Oregon vacation in the woods experience then look no further than this magical log cabin located at on the Sandy River at the foot of Mt Hood. And you're in for a treat as this is a Steiner cabin (look it up!). It's even more fabulous than the website photos convey. Relax in the hammock and let the sound of the river wash away the tension. Or take a hike on one of the many, many beautiful area trails, a swim in Trillum Lake or dine on a meal of clam chowder up at TImberline (Weird but true, Timberline serves clam chowder to rival any on the Oregon coast).
NOTE: A family of chickadees are nested (7-8-13) in the birdhouse at the firepit area. We didn't want the smoke to harm the chicks so we opted for the chimidero located at the back porch area. It was just as nice as the firepit and did a fine job keeping the few misquitoes that came out at dusk, at bay.
It was so much more than we expected! Arriving late and tired from a long travel day, we especially appreciated the bottled water and coffee that was available to us the next morning. The king bed in the loft was fabulous - my husband had to pry my fingers away from it the morning we left! :) We jokingly said we were staying in Middle Earth from The Hobbit. We'll be back.
We had a wonderful stay at Zoe's Cabin. We were looking for some quiet, relaxing time away together and found exactly that. The ONLY thing I might add is flannel sheets in the winter as those cotton ones are very chilly!! Other than that, perfect!!
A wonderful cabin on the river would live to visit in the summer months.
Loved, loved, loved the cabin!!!!
Seriously , when you first walk into the cabin , your breath is imediately taken away at the sheer beauty of the place . I felt whisked back through time ( I love history and man is this place rich with it ! ) Have a cup of coffee on the porch , take in the river , marvel at the craftsmen ship and the work involved in creating this gem . By the way , thanks for having coffee beans and a grinder there ( brought my own , but not enough lol . ) Also , had a small suggeston for the stair-case - may-be tuck one of those battery operated light bulbs into the corner so you can see the bottom stairs at night , they are a slightly different color and blended with the wood floor , did'nt fall but stumbled a bit . Im old , but agile lol .Thank you again , it was a wonderful experience !
Beautiful setting, charming cabin ~simply the best in the area!
very happy with our stay. Beautiful cabin, is well furnished. Felt like home, nothing was missing. Will be back.
So peaceful and beautiful! Will come back!
It was wonderful getting there, and opening the door to find the pellet stove burning, and the cabin very cozy. I loved listening to the rain at night gently falling on the roof. I look forward to renting it again in the future...
We decided to rent a cabin for our anniversary and Zoe's Cabin did not dissapoint. It rained almost our entire trip, but it didn't matter. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch while dinking our coffee and watching the rain. The fireplace was perfect and the wood pellet stove was great. We were pleased with how stocked the kitchen was. The bed was comfy and the vhs selection was rather impressive, even though we didn't watch TV. We found this cabin inspiring and relaxing and would definitely like to return.
Arrive before dark! Beautiful setting along the Sandy River, yet almost impossible to see signs/roads after dark...entering the cabin was like opening a much longer for gift...what a peasant surprise! Weather was spectacular for early October long weekend. Friend flew in from Southern California for retirement celebration(& pre-site inspection research for her husband:D). Neighbors friendly (2 magnificent standard poodles may come to visit, or s sweet grey cat), trail along the river, cozy hammock riverside, and almost everything else you would need provided, except for food (Thriftway downcast on 26). Beds comfortable & river sounds lull you into slumber~Hated to leave! Hope to be back...read the history & the guest book! Thanks for a great respite~
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Zoe's Log Cabin and most certainly will return next year to soak up another layer of the sense of history that the cabin exudes. This cabin is just the right size to offer a feeling of coziness, and the many big windows let in an abundance of light, as well as a wrap-around view of the forest in all its daily changing shades of green. Given the beauty of those large vintage windows, we did wonder why the big one in the kitchen was blocked by a large cabinet and hutch combination, keeping the kitchen darker than it needed to be and covering up the view of the charming fire pit in its wooded setting that sits right outside the back door. We very much appreciated the cleanliness and cabin-style furnishings that filled Zoe's, and the library of videos is astonishing! All in all a wonderful escape from the hurried pace of modern life these days.
Zoe's cabin is quite a treasure...so close to Portland, but feels lightyears away from any city...loads of hiking trails near. it's completely equipped with everything u need to be self sufficient! the views magnificent, the area quiet and peaceful . felt like we found a treasure, we plan to return and stay longer!
The cabin is wonderful! It felt like home from the minute we walked in. Loved the hammock by the river and the porch for morning coffee. Next time we will stay longer and use the firepit. The staff at Vacasa are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend it to friends but I don't want the competition for prime dates!
This cabin was perfect for our relaxing get away. Very peaceful and impressively clean.
Had a great time at Zoe's cabin to celebrate our daughters 40th birthday. All she wanted was a quiet little getaway and she absolutley loved it!
Loved the rustic feel of this lovely log cabin. Just what we were looking for.
Went on hiking trips daily. Lots of trails nearby the Welches area.
Loved the large King size bed upstairs....so big and so comfy!!!
Grandaughter loved the little sandy area near the river, but at a safe enough distance away from water. We so enjoyed the early morning and the late nights on the back porch facing the river and using the little firepot. Great for roasting the marshmellows!
The main thing I would suggest to the owner of this very lovely little cabin in the woods, would be to replace the BBQ. Also more lighting in the kitchen would be a big plus.
We loved our stay at Zoe's cabin and would love to return again someday.
Many wonderful memories were made there.
Wow!!!! What an amazing place with such an interesting history! We thought it was charming, cozy and well stocked. We really enjoyed the fire pit and the lights in the trees!! We hope to return sometime to enjoy it in the snow. We also appreciated the simplicity of renting online with Vacasa. Thank you!!
Nice and relaxing, although upkeep was falling a bit behind
We loved out stay here.. SO close to Portland, yet, you feel like you are in a different world once on the property. We took a day trip Saturday to Timberline Lodge.. very easy to get to from the cabin. Loved the river paths as well. Can't recommend enough!
Great Cabin, need better sign out front would help with locating the cabin.
Thank you for your review and the suggestion on the sign!
Great location and rustic beauty. King size bed is nothing short of awesome. Sound of the river is wonderful. Very private and quiet area!
My only negative is that our stay was too short. I would live here if I could. It is a special place. The Log Cabin I always dreamed of. I do wish the other cabins in the group were less close, but that was minor. Zoe's is it's own world.
We loved the cabin, and the serenity, close to snowboarding for my grandson and his friend, and would love to come back. The weekend went by too fast.
Beautiful cabin in a wonderful setting that is very well appointed. Pellet stove quit working but otherwise a wonderful stay. Although they couldn't fix it while we were there, the staff I talked to about it was very helpful and responsive. The fireplace kept us pretty warm. Jules especially seemed to be very attached to the cabin, which made us love it even more. We can't wait to come back. The cabin itself was perfect. And, we even found a deck of pinochle cards under the TV. Amazing!
Thank you for your review! We are glad you had a great time!
some friends and i found Zoe's for a short retreat that was sorely needed during the holidays. we had a great time. the river was intense. the cabin was cozy. great place, i'll definitely recommend it to others!
