This place is beautiful, peaceful, and a ton of funky fun. It's the most unique spot I have ever stayed (you should look up some or the architects other work, it is all amazing). The pool is awesome. Great sunsets. The lagoon has bioluminescence. And while there isn't anything really in walking distance, they do provide bikes you can use to ride into town. We had a rental car so didn't get a chance to actually use those. And the caretaker, who we briefly interacted with, was very friendly and provided some good advice for local activities (and a warning not to swim in the lagoon due to crocodiles, which was appreciated because I probably would have jumped in without much thought). As others have noted, the crazy design does make for some interesting and annoying user experience. There are tons of places to sit, but most are not very comfortable, the spiral staircase can be awkward to navigate, you stand on rocks to take a shower, and worst of all the only toilet is on the main level right off the kitchen and doesn't have a full door (just a stall style door open on the top and bottom). This last point was especially a problem for us because I got very sick and spent a whole day needing to use it while my poor wife was trying to have a relaxing vacation. We only stayed two nights. I wish we could have stayed a couple more to get more time to enjoy the pool, kayaking, and such, but I can imagine the quirky features would have started getting on my nerves after 4 or more days there. All that being said I would recommend it as a fun experience and if we ever go back to Placencia I would rent again.
