We booked an oceanfront property through Marriott Homes & Villas four months in advance, with the reservation handled by Vacasa. Just days before our arrival, Vacasa informed us the original property was unavailable and moved us to the Waikoloa Fairway Villas. While this unit was nice, it was not the oceanfront experience we paid for. Both Marriott and Vacasa were unwilling to refund the true, fair market difference between the two vastly different properties; they offered a $300 credit when the documented value gap was actually $1,200. We only accepted the change because we were unable to find a suitable replacement on such short notice. Due to these management stunts and the refusal to honor the mathematical reality of the price difference, we will not book with Vacasa or Marriott again.
Regarding the condo itself, the unit at Waikoloa Fairway Villas was pleasant and well-stocked with basic kitchen amenities and helpful extras like beach chairs and umbrellas. However, there were a few maintenance issues: the window blinds were broken, and the HVAC thermostat was locked, preventing us from lowering the high temperature setting. It is a lovely property, but the experience was overshadowed by the poor service and lack of financial integrity from Marriott and Vacasa.
