Make Whitingham your next getaway

Placid, rustic, and idyllic in every season, the sleepy Vermont town of Whitingham possess all the quintessential charms of small town New England.

Known as the birthplace of Brigham Young, what this town lacks in size, it makes up for in unspoiled, natural beauty. Of particular popularity are the peak foliage months when rolling hills blush fiery shades of red and gold and burn brightly in the autumn sun. Whitingham is an ideal place to channel one's inner Thoreau, nurture his or her budding Emersonian spirit, or simply enjoy the sweet crispness of a gentle Southern Vermont breeze through autumn maple trees and the quiet majesty of snow falling on stark boughs in the winter.

You don't need to be a reclusive poet to appreciate the seasonal splendors of this homey hamlet - its convenient location nearby to multiple top-notch ski areas make it a great home base for winter trips. Book a stay in one of our cozy Whitingham vacation rentals and experience the magic of small town New England for yourself.

Recent Whitingham vacation rental reviews

It was an absolutely beautiful stay. The place is well maintained, the views are just gorgeous. There is a sort of mix between rustic backcountry lodge and modern cottage. I would definitely come back for another retreat!

We had our best experience staying at John's Farm, Effie(host) was so nice to communicate with about everything during our trip. The house is beautiful, you get a nice vintage feel and has everything to keep a big group occupied. It's very spacious for 10ppl. Located in perfect place, very private yet close to all shopping and restaurants and Mt snow.

We loved this little cabin on Gates Pond! It was just perfect for our family with plenty of space. The setting is so so beautiful and secluded. There were some refrigerator issues that the owner and caretaker did their best to solve as quickly as possible. The house was super clean and comfortable and it had everything we needed for our stay…it felt like a cozy home away from home and we all enjoyed it so much! We definitely hope to stay there again next time we’re in town. Thank you!!!

Things to Do in Whitingham, VT

Settled in 1767, Whitingham is a gold mine of early-American history. In the summer, a self-guided bike tour from historic sign to historic sign (there are five total) is a great way to get to know your vacation host town. The Harriman Dam, just off the Scenic Route 100 Byway, was completed in 1923 and is certainly worth a gander while in town. Wide, mostly flat trails in this area along Lake Whitingham allow for leisurely hiking or biking. The lake, spanning nearly eight miles, is a lovely place to cool off, hang out, picnic, or a relaxed combination of all three! For a true Whitingham summer experience, pack a couple steaks and have a lakefront barbecue on the provided grills. Complement your feast with sweet and savory dairy delights from Spoonwood Cabin Creamery.

Take in scenic views on the Town Hill Commons, or squeeze in a history lesson with a visit to the Whitingham Historical Society to learn more about landmarks of note and points of interest.

As with any town, a great way to get know the community vibe is to check out creations by local artists, and New England art certainly has a flair of its own. Stone Soldier Pottery and Town Hill Pottery each offer selections of original creations from artists in and around Whitingham.

When in Vermont, it is essential for one to get his or her hands (and tongue) on some real, authentic Vermont Maple treats. Accomplish this mission with a visit to Sprague & Son Sugarhouse and taste the creamy, sugary goodness of a New England autumn.

In winter months, Whitingham turns into a snowy playground for avid snowmobilers. This town boasts over 45 miles of trails that make up only a small portion of the 4,700 miles of Vermont corridor trails. Lake Whitingham is also open to snowmobiles, and there are shops in town (such as Cherry Creek Sales) that will service your vehicle if it needs a tune up during your stay.

Adventures Around Whitingham
