We've been coming to Pali Ke Kua for many years, and this unit is still one of the best. The cleaning crew did an amazing job and the place was spotless on arrival. The kitchen is very well stocked with great cookware, sharp knives (!) and an array of dishes. There are even chopsticks and bowls for afternoon pupus on the lanai to watch the nightly sunset. Pick up some rolls and poke at the Dolphin Fish Market on the way home!
The beach equipment includes new Tommy Bahama beach chairs (yay!) and umbrella, several camping chairs and a boogie board; you will want to bring your own or rent snorkeling gear. There were also ice packs and 3 beach coolers in the kitchen that saved us having to buy those for beach lunches. Pat's Tacos on Hanalei Beach at Black Pot is another great option for lunch, opens at noon.
Since last year, all the louvered doors upstairs have been adjusted and there are 3 wonderful new ceiling fans. There is no A/C in this unit but we believe adding A/C would be a travesty; the unit is out near the point and is high enough to collect the trade winds at night.
The best farmers market for bread, fruit and greens is on Saturday at 9 near Kilauea. We also eat breakfast every morning on the lanai but note that there is still only one table and 3 chairs. While that is fine for just the 2 of us, it's a bit awkward with 4 when we have guests over.
Our only concern is that this unit has gotten somewhat pricey, more than double what it cost in 2019. While all properties on Kauai have gone up recently, the Vacasa booking fees are quite high and there is no discount for long term, repeat customers. On the other hand the checkin and checkout process is seamless and we enjoyed finally meeting the local property manager Rodman. He is very personable and will take care of any issues you might have.
