Recent Waldport vacation rental reviews

Pros: beautifully appointed house, with comfortable beds and easy access to a really nice beach. The space is comfortable and inviting, the pillows are nice which is rare for rentals, and the space was clean. The kitchen had dishes and cooking equipment and the knives, while not sharp, were workable (also rare for a renta!) I appreciated the views from both floors! There are both firm and soft mattresses and for rental home mattresses I’d give them an 8/10. Cons (not so much cons just… be aware’s!) there is no dishwasher, which they say in the description but if you’re like me you probably missed, so if it’s a bigger group that could get kind of exhausting. It’s also right off the highway so road noise is a constant. My biggest issue was that I got zero cell service in the house, and the WiFi was spotty at best. Silver lining, I finished two books. But if you’re traveling with kids just be aware! Also Vacasa homes tend to not have any food products stored in them which I’m aware of and appreciate from a hygiene perspective, but know that when packing (salt, pepper, etc aren’t there) All around nice rental, clean and comfortable with nice views and easy beach access!

Beautiful beach front!! Really clean and private. Loved the deck and the kitchen is fully stocked minus the spices. Bring your own salt haha

I loved the giant windows that looked out onto the sand and the beach just a short walk from the back deck! We had fantastic weather while we were there, January at the Oregon coast can be hit or miss, but we got a big hit and were able to sit in the sun, play card games and watch the ocean. The house is comfortable but could use some updating in the kitchen. The stove and oven worked, but had to have been from the 70's? Maybe 80's? We love to cook on vacation so that was the only kind of weird thing... but that being said... great knives and cutting boards, and plenty of decent pots and pans! We were a family of 4 and the house had plenty of space for all of us. One weird thing, with the way the sand surrounds the house, you don't hear the ocean? I guess we normally stay a little higher up, and one of my favorite things is falling asleep to the sound of the ocean, but you can't hear it here. Weird! Also check in is 4 PM, and check out is 10 AM..... so even though we booked two nights, it really felt like we only had one day to enjoy the space. I completely understand with staffing issues and CoVid protocol needing more time between reservations, but that was kind of a bummer.

Where is Waldport, OR?

Just 63 miles west of Corvallis, the sleepy fishing village of Waldport is just half an hour's drive from Newport's star attractions, but provides a much more relaxing and laid-back atmosphere to enjoy at the end of the day. Plus, the town itself is surrounded by beautiful state parks and recreation areas, offering plenty of reasons to avoid the crowds up north and enjoy the great outdoors on the Central Oregon Coast.

Fishing in Waldport

Fishermen will be thrilled to find that the Alsea River winds through Waldport, bringing with it some of the region's best salmon and steelhead runs. Crabbing and clamming are also excellent here, with the Alsea Bay Bridge being a popular spot to drop traps and pots during Dungeness season. Stop by the Dock of the Bay Marina to rent all the equipment needed to catch the freshest dinner on the coast.

Things to do in Waldport

Even non-fishermen will delight in paddling around Alsea Bay and its surrounding estuaries; visit the Kayak Shack, a rental shop run by entrepreneurial students at Waldport High School. Just outside of town, be sure to spend time exploring the tide pools at Seal Rock, beach combing at Ona Beach, or Governor Patterson Memorial State Recreation Site. Or, head inland to hike through the beautiful old-growth Sitka spruces in the often-overlooked Drift Creek Wilderness Area.

Day trips from Waldport

A Waldport vacation rental offers more in the way of peace and quiet than lively restaurants or shopping, but when you want a little bit of excitement, is also very close to Newport (15 miles north) and (8 miles south). Both towns offer enough high-quality seafood restaurants, family-friendly burger bars, and cozy beach town pubs to please everyone.

For rainy day activities, Newport's aquarium, historic lighthouses, museums, and art galleries provide plenty of entertainment; to explore one of the Coast's most charming downtowns and stunning views, head to Yachats and the nearby Cape Perpetua Scenic Area.

Close to the hubbub of Newport, the charm of Yachats, and surrounded by natural beauty, a vacation rental in peaceful Waldport is certainly one of the best-kept secrets on the Central Oregon Coast. Don't miss out!
