This home was well worth the money. We spent three nights there and really enjoyed it!

Great location with private staircase to the beach at the rear of the backyard with no other properties or roads in between. The house is spacious & well appointed, with every kind of cookware & dinnerware you may need. Furniture & fixtures are a little dated, but everything was clean & in perfect working condition. Floor layout takes advantage of breathtaking views from the open kitchen & living room upstairs with broad & tall windows. WiFi at the house is strong & fast, there is a 15” Echo Show on the kitchen’s wall & two Apple TVs, one for each set (upstairs & downstairs). Cellular coverage is very weak & spotty in Cape Meares (it may be a good idea to save door access details before getting here). It’s a quaint little community of a few dozen houses & no services (Tillamook is only a 20 minute drive away with a Safeway, restaurants & food trucks). On weekdays streets seem almost deserted, a few more people show up on weekends, drawn by the natural beauty of the beach & the bluff at its south end. The beach is a broad, 5-mile stretch of fine sand, backing into dune grasses & small pines with Tillamook Bay on the other side. At the south end are rugged bluffs of Cape Meares (the headland), covered by a dense forest with thick & lush shrubs. There is a steep but pleasant trail from the rocky cove at the very end of the beach that climbs up to the Old Cape Meares Loop Rd, which can then be taken on an easy stroll back for a nice, 4mi+ loop.

The jacuzzi was wonderful and the large inclosed yard was great for our pooches.

Things to do in Cape Meares

Without a doubt, the number one attraction near town is the Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint. The small but impressive park is home to both the shortest lighthouse and the most giant Sitka Spruce in Oregon, as well as some of the Coast's best views over the crashing Pacific Ocean. The viewpoints in the park are known as a prime whale-watching spot during migration season, and a favorite nesting ground for seabirds, including the common murre, bald eagle, and peregrine falcon.

On clear days, visitors might glimpse the tufted puffins and Steller sea lions who enjoy protected breeding grounds at the Three Arch Rocks Natural Wildlife Refuge to the southwest of Cape Meares. Many vacationers along the Oregon Coast pass through Cape Meares as they journey along the Three Capes Scenic Route, a 40-mile loop drive that meanders along the shoreline from Pacific City to Tillamook. Even on rainy days, when you might be tempted to hunker down in your cozy Cape Meares beach cottage, the well-marked path at Three Capes is worth an afternoon's exploration, showing off some of Oregon's most panoramic viewpoints in state parks at Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda.

Along the sandy beach of Cape Meares and in the surrounding parks, visitors can enjoy some of the best hiking, kayaking, kite-flying, crabbing, fishing, and birdwatching in the state. While Cape Meares itself is very quiet, the community is only five minutes from Oceanside, with fresh seafood and homemade desserts at Roseanna's Cafe or Brewin' in the Wind.

Day trips from Cape Meares

Within twenty minutes, Tillamook offers all the dining and shopping options of a larger town, plus the ultimate rainy-day activity: touring and tasting at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Cape Meares makes a convenient home base for exploring the Oregon Coast, with a number of popular tourist destinations within an hour and a half's drive: Cannon Beach and Seaside to the north, and Pacific City and Lincoln City to the south. Portland is under two hours away, and Seattle can be reached within four and a half hours.

Close to the conveniences of "civilization" but offering a true sense of getting away from it all, a stay at one of our Cape Meares vacation rentals is unmatched for its combination of natural beauty and peacefulness on the Northern Oregon Coast.
