Recent Montana vacation rental reviews

It was the next best thing to a ski in/ski out location -only about 5 min from whitefish resort. It seemed to be stocked well and well maintained. I didn't read the instructions well enough, and it was dark when I arrived, so I had a hard time finding the door with the keypad behind the screen door. FYI there are two entrances, the lower one closer to parking is the "back door." The thing I didn't enjoy was that it was a bit of hike (75 yards) up the hill from the parking to get to the unit. Quite a trek when you have to carry in ski equipment, bags and food. Also, not a problem for us but it is three levels only accessible by a small spiral staircase (I guess you could go outside and go around to the rear entrance to get to the lower entrance). Overall, we were satisfied with our stay.

We really enjoyed our stay, especially the big windows and roomy space. Even though some of the furnishings were a little older, the place had everything we needed. We will definitely stay here again when we’re back in Big Sky.

Nice place for a 4 person ski trip, bedrooms were big, high ceilings in dining room/living room, lots of windows, and was quiet even though the road isn't far from the back of the house.

Why visit Montana?

Montana is ideal for travelers who want space, solitude, and four-season outdoor experiences. It’s less crowded than other mountain states, but every bit as beautiful offering everything from trout-filled rivers and hiking trails to ski resorts and small ranch towns where the pace is slow and the welcome is warm.

Summer brings long days perfect for exploring the backcountry, while winter blankets the mountains in snow perfect for skiing, snowshoeing, or simply staying cozy by the fire. Whether you’re looking for a week in the wilderness or a scenic road trip across the state, Montana makes you feel both grounded and free.

Things to do in Montana

Where to stay in Montana

Montana vacation rentals range from modern mountain lodges and log cabins to ranch homes and lakefront retreats. Many offer hot tubs, fireplaces, big windows, and incredible views of mountains or rivers. Remote and private stays are easy to find, but you’ll also spot in-town rentals near downtown Bozeman, Missoula, or Whitefish if you’re looking for something walkable.

Rentals here are especially popular with families, outdoor enthusiasts, long-term travelers, and those seeking a true escape from busy day-to-day life.

Wide open and worth every mile

Montana doesn’t shout. It whispers with the sound of wind through the trees, rushing water over rocks, and snow falling quietly in the backcountry. It’s a place that slows you down and fills you up. Whether you're here to hike, ski, write, rest, or roam, Montana offers wide open space to reconnect with the land and yourself.
