Recent Swanton vacation rental reviews

Very cozy and very clean, but a little older and smaller than the pictures portray. Great place to stay in the area though. We did have some issues with the hot tub at first, which was the main reason we booked here (Wrong Key to open cover, then wasn't heating to temp). It was resolved by the 2nd night, but was an inconvenience. Rich from Vacasa said he would refund hot tub fee (which we didn't know existed), but never did. Would stay again though.

Great home with a superb view of the lake. A perfect option for that much needed family getaway. Back yard is decent size, mostly flat and leads right to the dock.

Where is Swanton, MD?

Swanton is located in the sparsely populated western panhandle of Maryland, in the heart of the Eastern Deciduous Forest. Despite its remoteness, it remains easily accessible from many of the East Coast's major cities (two hours from Pittsburgh, and a little over three from Baltimore and Washington DC), making it a peaceful escape from the bustle of urban life.

Things to do in Swanton, MD

With a population of only 58 people, Swanton's tiny size belies its enormous variety of year-round outdoor activities. Within a 15-mile radius, you'll find Maryland's tallest free-flowing waterfall (Muddy Creek Falls, at 54 feet), its largest lake (Deep Creek Lake, with 69 miles of shoreline), and its biggest state park (Savage River State Forest, with 54,000 acres of densely wooded hills).

These spectacular natural areas have endowed the region with a reputation as an all-season recreational mecca. In the winter, head north to Wisp Mountain, where you can ski, snowboard, and bobsled down a 700-foot vertical drop. In the summer, choose between boating, hiking, mountain biking, fly-fishing, or white-water rafting - to name just a few! Be sure to also stop by the quaint, nearby town of Oakland, where you'll find numerous antique stores, farmers markets, and outdoor festivals.

When you're looking for a country retreat away from the noise of the big city, our vacation rentals in Swanton offer a relaxing and refreshing change of pace. Book a stay and get back to nature!
