Make Rancho Palos Verdes your next getaway

Surrounded by sprawling Los Angeles and its environs, Rancho Palos Verdes is an oasis in a sea of development. However, situated on the bluffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, it offers impressive vistas of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Catalina Island to anyone from its many landmarks and vantage points. Because most of the residents live at least 1,000 feet above sea level, many of them look down over the clouds during spring and summer mornings as though they were viewing them from a jet plane. Rancho Palos Verdes boasts more coastal open space than any other county in Los Angeles, a fact hard-won in the face of hungry developers who, for decades, sought to cash in on its awesome natural beauty. The city was saved from this fate, however, by its incorporation in 1973 when legislation was passed to keep developers at bay. A very popular site near the city is Glass Church/Wayfarers Chapel. A sought after venue for weddings, this non-denominational church with actual glass walls boasts breathtaking views of the Pacific and was designed by Lloyd Wright, the son of Frank Lloyd Wright. Head over to Abalone Cove Shoreline Park & Ecological Reserve. Panoramic views from the cliffs often afford you glimpses of dolphins and/or whales. Wade through the tide pools near Inspiration Point where you can see starfish, urchins, sea anemones, crabs, fish, hermit crabs, baby abalone, mussels, and much more. Or, check out the exhibit of old Marineland artifacts, souvenirs, and photos and take a stroll at the Pointe Vincente Interpretive Center. While you're at Pointe Vincente, make sure you visit the Pointe Vincente Lighthouse. And that's not all! There's also Clovercliff Park, Del Cerro Park, Eastview Park, and Matingale Trailhead Park...all wonderful places to experience the awesome beauty of this area. Yes, golfers, bring your clubs. There are, count 'em, 35 golf courses within 25 miles of Rancho Palos Verdes. There are two right in the city: Trump National Golf Course and Los Verdes Golf Course. When you're hungry, there are 14 restaurants in the area catering to all tastes from seafood, to Thai, to Japanese and pizza.
