Down the hill, you can drive into Waikoloa to visit Lava Lava Beach Club and Anaehoomalu Beach. There you can sun yourself on the sun, go snorkeling, or grab a cocktail or lunch while you enjoy the evening colors. Just a half-mile north of Lava Lava, you'll have all sorts of shopping and dining available at the Kings' and Queens' Marketplaces. If you like historical hikes, the Petroglyphs are near Kings' Marketplace along a walking trail.

The neighborhood:
Waikoloa Village is a relaxed inland base for exploring the Kohala Coast. Golf, groceries, and everyday services are nearby, while the beach-resort area is an easy drive. Anaeho'omalu Bay and Lava Lava Beach Club make a good coastal outing, and Kings' Shops and Queens' MarketPlace are close for dining and browsing. This setting is quieter and more residential than the resort strip, with a car recommended.

Getting around:
Kona International Airport (KOA) is about 25 to 30 minutes from Waikoloa Village. A rental car is recommended because coastal beaches, resort shopping, and dining are a short drive from this upcountry golf community. The village center has a few walkable shops and places to eat. Parking is typically available at properties or in nearby lots without much difficulty.
