House in Gualala, California
OVERVIEW
Wake up in the redwoods above Gualala on the Mendocino coast. This multi-level 3BR/3BA forest home sleeps 8: rally around the game room's convertible pool/ping-pong table, soak in the freestanding tub, and grill on two levels of deck under string lights. An attached ADU suite adds its own bedroom, sitting room, bath, and private entrance. WiFi, washer/dryer, and an EV charger for guests - beaches and downtown Gualala are minutes down the hill.
Wake up in the treetops. Moonrise Forest sits high in the redwoods and firs above Gualala on the Mendocino coast, and nearly every window frames the forest - the kind of place where mornings start with coffee on the deck and evenings end around the game table.
UPSTAIRS LIVING
The main level opens under vaulted wood-plank ceilings and exposed beams. The picture-window living room is lined with built-in bookshelves and deep seating - including two classic red papasan chairs - with a wall-mounted TV for movie nights. A window AC unit keeps the room comfortable on warm afternoons, a decorative brick fireplace (warmed by an electric heater) anchors the corner, and a sliding door steps straight onto the deck.
KITCHEN & DINING
The skylit kitchen carries the home's forest character: sage-green cabinetry, a glass-block backsplash, and an angled island with seating for three. It's fully equipped for real cooking - oven, stove, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, and full cookware. The dining table seats up to eight beneath its own wall of glass, so the whole group eats together.
GAME ROOM
The room everyone claims first. A convertible table switches between pool and ping-pong, joined by a dartboard, a chalkboard wall for scorekeeping, a second TV, bean-bag seating, and a live-edge window bar where spectators watch the action with the trees behind them.

OUTDOOR LIVING
Two levels of deck wrap the home in the forest. Grill dinner on the upper deck under bistro string lights, or take the shade on the covered lower deck among the ferns. A gravel path winds through the trees past a small lawn, with towering redwoods for privacy on every side.

Moonrise Forest sits in the forested hills above Gualala, on the Mendocino coast just north of The Sea Ranch - redwoods out every window, the ocean minutes away by car. Downtown Gualala's Surf Market, Trinks Cafe, and local restaurants are a short drive down the hill, and Gualala Point Regional Park at the river mouth offers bluff trails and beach walks. The Sea Ranch trails, Anchor Bay's beaches, and the Point Arena Lighthouse are all within an easy coastal drive.
Gualala is about 2.5 hours north of San Francisco via Highways 101 and 1, or roughly 1.5 hours from Santa Rosa - and the coastal stretch of Highway 1 is part of the experience. A car is essential. You'll have free parking on premises plus a guest EV charger, so arrive fully charged and leave the same way. Cell service is limited along this part of the coast - download offline maps before you drive up.
You'll have full privacy and the whole home to yourselves. Our local team is just a message away for check-in help, coast and trail recommendations, or anything you need during your stay.
Moonrise Forest is a multi-level home on a quiet, forested coastal hillside - expect stairs between levels. Exterior lighting is minimal: bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the darkest stargazing skies on the California coast. Heat comes from electric heaters; the brick fireplaces are decorative. The garage is not accessible to guests. The attached ADU suite is reached through its own private entrance (Door B) on the garage side.
