Gualala is approximately 2.5 hours north of San Francisco via Highway 101 to Highway 1, right on the Mendocino-Sonoma County border. Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is the nearest airport at roughly 90 minutes east. A car is recommended -- Highway 1 is one of the world's great coastal drives.
Whale watching season runs from December through April -- grab the binoculars and watch for gray whale spouts from your window. Spring wildflowers (April-June) blanket the coastal headlands and the banks of the Gualala River with vibrant color. Summer on the Mendonoma Coast (June-September) means warm days and the occasional morning fog that burns off by lunch.
Cell service can be spotty along the coast. The home has WiFi for staying connected. Eagle's Landing was named for a pair of bald eagles that would spend hours in the trees watching the river. You may spot whales, bald eagles, and other wildlife.
