A peek behind the scenes of Schoolhouse’s 2019 holiday catalog

>

The holidays are upon us, and there’s nothing quite like spending cherished time with family and friends in a vacation rental. While Vacasa cares for homes of all kinds and in many destinations, the Swedish Stuga in Rhododendron, Oregon, caught the eye of high-end national home decor brand Schoolhouse. Like Vacasa, Schoolhouse is headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and when the company began scouting for its holiday catalog shooting location, they didn’t have to look far.

The Swedish Stuga is located about 45 minutes from Portland and is situated among 24 acres of dense forest near Mount Hood. Its gorgeous red exterior topped with bright white trim beckoned the Schoolhouse design team, but they needed a peek inside before committing to photographing the home for one of their most important (and well-shopped) catalogs of the year. The team headed east toward Mount Hood and spent a week going over every detail of the property, inside and out, even foraging a bit of greenery for inspiration. Soon after, they knew they had their spot and spent an additional week turning the home into a winter wonderland.

While the Schoolhouse catalog is regarded as one of the most aspirational year after year, the 2019 edition is (selfishly) our favorite. Through its pages, understated holiday touches grace the unexpected nooks and crannies of the home, while classic Schoolhouse wares shine through in light fixtures, lamps and clocks.
