About Ontario

As the largest province in Canada, Ontario is comprised of vastly different regions and landscapes. To the north, you’ll find large swaths of forest, where polar bears roam and you just might catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. In the south, you’ll find bustling cities and most of our Ontario vacation rentals. Ontario contains 40 percent of Canada’s entire population, in cities like Ottawa (the nation’s capital) and Toronto. Often referred to as the most multicultural city in the world, Toronto is home to over 200 ethnic groups and over 140 languages are spoken.

Ontario’s landscape

Ontario is landlocked to the east and west, by Quebec to the east and Manitoba, respectively. At its northern end, you’ll find the shores of the vast Hudson Bay, and to the south, four of the five Great Lakes (Superior, Huron, Erie, and Ontario) separate it from the U.S.

Skiing and outdoor activities in Ontario

You’ll find most of our Ontario vacation rentals in the charming towns of The Blue Mountains and Collingwood, on the shores of the Georgian Bay. Here, year-round outdoor activities bring visitors back time and time again, regardless of the season.

Blue Mountain Resort is a big attraction to this area. It’s the largest mountain resort in Ontario and receives more than 1.5 million guests annually. Whether you’re a novice skier or an expert, there’s plenty of terrain for everyone, and lessons are readily available. The resort boasts 42 trails, including 30 night lit trails, and all of them are groomed and maintained with a world-class snowmaking system. We even offer ski-in/ski-out Ontario cabins, for completely hassle-free mountain access. Other winter activities offered by the resort include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and tubing.

When the weather is warm, the resort turns into an outdoor lover’s paradise, and namely the largest downhill mountain biking facility in Ontario. There are a number of thrill adventures and leisurely activities, like a ropes course, zip line, climbing wall, hiking trails, and golf courses. There’s even a mountain roller coaster where you can careen through the trees at up to 26 miles per hour.

Exploring nearby Niagara Falls

When you book one of our Ontario cabins, you’ll be within a day-trip to Niagara Falls, a top bucket list item for many travelers. In fact, it’s just over two and a half hours by car from our Ontario lodging in Collingwood.

Niagara Falls is comprised of three different waterfalls, the largest being Horseshoe or Canadian Falls, followed by American and Bridal Veil Falls, which both lie entirely within New York. These roaring waters have a higher flow rate and a taller drop—160 feet—than any other in the United States. Whether you’re viewing this incredible sight from a ferry tour, a zip line, or the observation tower, it’s sure to become an unforgettable addition to your Ontario getaway.

Day-trips to Toronto

While there’s much to see in the capital city of Ottawa, our Ontario vacation rentals are much closer to bustling and multicultural Toronto. Whether you’re just venturing into the city for the day or extending your overall itinerary, Toronto is certainly worth the visit.

See a bird’s eye view of the city and Lake Ontario at the CN Tower, an icon of the Toronto skyline and the ninth tallest free-standing structure in the world. The LookOut Level is perfect for those photo-worthy vistas, while 360 Restaurant offers an unforgettable experience of dining as you slowly revolve for complete panoramic views.

Stroll along the cobblestone streets of the Distillery District, a pedestrian-only area where charming 19th-century buildings house shops, restaurants, and cafes. Head to Boku Bar for pan-Asian bites like Filopino pork rolls, ramen, and elevated cocktails. Satisfy your sweet tooth with Soma Chocolates or Greg’s Bakery, and when it's time to unwind with a pint, you can visit Mill Street Beer Hall.

There are so many things to do in this city. Tour the house and grounds of Casa Loma, an incredibly ornate gothic mansion offering guided tours, plus a gift shop and on-site dining. Or peruse one of the many art, history, and cultural museums. St. Lawrence Market offers artisanal foods and crafts, and the sprawling Toronto Zoo is a great place to bring the kids.

Best of all, after a day of exploration, you can return to our Ontario cabins knowing you’ll have everything needed for the perfect getaway. Whether you’re coming for the year-round outdoor activities or to spend a day sight-seeing among Niagara Falls or Toronto, there’s something for everyone.
