Recent Lake Arenal vacation rental reviews

Villa Arenal Dreams #3 is a clean, quiet, and comfortable home to recharge in after a busy day of adventures in the Arenal Volcano area. Located seven minutes off the main highway and midway between Místico Arenal Hanging Bridges and La Fortuna this home provides convenient access to all the sights and adventures in the area. A ten-minute drive away is a mini-super for all your basic grocery needs and not much further are worthy roadside restaurants to enjoy a meal. Soda La Palma was our favorite for breakfast or lunch. El Novillo de Arenal and Restaurante Bongos provided tasty and hearty dinner options. Our two-night stay included myself, my young adult daughter, and her boyfriend. The home provided plenty of space for all of us. We appreciated the home’s location away from the hustle and noise of the large resorts and highway. Villa Arenal Dreams, nestled in the hills, helped us feel closer to the nature around us. At night we sat on the patio, in the dark, gazing at the stars, listening to jungle sounds, and spotting fireflies. In the morning, it was back on the patio with a cup of coffee waking up with the rainforest. Had there not been cloud cover we would have had a magnificent view of Arenal Volcano. Villa Arenal Dreams seems newly constructed or newly renovated with contemporary looking flooring and paint. The mattresses were comfortable, and the bedding was fresh and clean. The home provides a basic, yet adequate kitchen and outdoor charcoal grill should you choose to cook at home. The Wi-Fi was adequate for all our device streaming needs. There is one flat screen TV in the home, though we didn’t use it. The property manager was friendly and responsive, and the house caretaker lives nearby should you require anything. Villa Arenal Dreams #3 is a no frills, quiet, comfortable, and clean place to relax and sleep after a full day of sightseeing and adventuring in the Arenal area. I will stay there again when I return to the area.

Where is Lake Arenal?

Lake Arenal sits at the meeting point of the coastal Guanacaste Province and its neighbor to the northeast, the mountainous Alajuela Province. Scenic Route 142 traces the northern lakeshore, connecting La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano National Park in the east with the towns of Nuevo Arenal and Tejona in the west. Here in Costa Rica's inland highlands, you'll be just 30 miles north of Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, 55 miles east of Liberia, and 125 miles northwest of San José.

Things to do in Lake Arenal

With a hydroelectric dam that provides a significant share of the nation's electricity, Lake Arenal has been a fixture in Costa Rica's energy economy since its expansion in 1979. But the lake also lures anglers, kayakers, and world-class windsurfers to its shores, thanks to its majestic scenery, dependable winds, and depths that reach nearly 200 feet.

Get out on the water to fine-tune your windsurfing and kitesurfing skills, or spend your days in search of prize rainbow bass, also known as "guapote." Troll the waters at sunrise and sunset, leaving plenty of time at midday to hop on board a water taxi, take a ride on horseback, or peruse the eclectic collection of coffee shops and galleries that line the nearby road.

Arenal Volcano and other nearby attractions

Looming in the east is the Arenal Volcano, where you'll find a wealth of opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and zip lining on one of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes. Within the surrounding Arenal Volcano National Park and its neighboring communities such as La Fortuna, you can marvel at Arenal's picturesque conical peak, the emerald lagoon of the collapsed Chato Volcano, and more than 29,000 acres of forests, tapir and howler monkey habitats, and old lava trails.

Bask in the unforgettable scenery of Costa Rica's most famous mountain lake—begin planning your escape to our Lake Arenal vacation rentals today.
