This is a beautiful villa with a perfect view of the volcano from the porch. Beds were comfortable and clean and kitchen is spacious.

Beautiful home and gorgeous view!

We arrived after dark but were still greeted by a friendly smile and in the morning we were amazed at the beautiful view of the volcano right out the kitchen window! Arenal Dreams #3 had everything we needed and more. The shower had a soap dispenser which was handy and all of the towels and linens were clean and ready for us. The Mini Super we a short distance down the road and had everything we needed for a delightful breakfast. The electric hot water pot was very appreciated as were all of the kitchen ammenities. Maria was very helpful in communicating with us and connecting us with our next destination. Arenal Dreams was in a quiet spot surrounded by the natural beauty of the Costa Rica country side and yet a short car ride to town and hot springs.

Where is Lake Arenal?

Lake Arenal sits at the meeting point of the coastal Guanacaste Province and its neighbor to the northeast, the mountainous Alajuela Province. Scenic Route 142 traces the northern lakeshore, connecting La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano National Park in the east with the towns of Nuevo Arenal and Tejona in the west. Here in Costa Rica's inland highlands, you'll be just 30 miles north of Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, 55 miles east of Liberia, and 125 miles northwest of San José.

Things to do in Lake Arenal

With a hydroelectric dam that provides a significant share of the nation's electricity, Lake Arenal has been a fixture in Costa Rica's energy economy since its expansion in 1979. But the lake also lures anglers, kayakers, and world-class windsurfers to its shores, thanks to its majestic scenery, dependable winds, and depths that reach nearly 200 feet.

Get out on the water to fine-tune your windsurfing and kitesurfing skills, or spend your days in search of prize rainbow bass, also known as "guapote." Troll the waters at sunrise and sunset, leaving plenty of time at midday to hop on board a water taxi, take a ride on horseback, or peruse the eclectic collection of coffee shops and galleries that line the nearby road.

Arenal Volcano and other nearby attractions

Looming in the east is the Arenal Volcano, where you'll find a wealth of opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and zip lining on one of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes. Within the surrounding Arenal Volcano National Park and its neighboring communities such as La Fortuna, you can marvel at Arenal's picturesque conical peak, the emerald lagoon of the collapsed Chato Volcano, and more than 29,000 acres of forests, tapir and howler monkey habitats, and old lava trails.

Bask in the unforgettable scenery of Costa Rica's most famous mountain lake—begin planning your escape to our Lake Arenal vacation rentals today.
