Where is Buttermilk Ski Resort?
Located in the snowsports mecca of Colorado’s Pitkin County, Buttermilk Mountain is one of four major ski mountains in Aspen: Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk. This area is only three-and-a-half hour drive from Denver, and Aspen/Pitkin Airport is just minutes away. Buttermilk Mountain is close to downtown Aspen, where you’ll find shopping, dining, and entertainment.
Winter sports at Buttermilk Ski Resort
Buttermilk Mountain is divided into three areas that offer 470 acres of diverse terrain, so there’s something for everyone. The Main Buttermilk and West Buttermilk areas provide gentler slopes for an easy day of fun. Families with young kids will love the Hideout, where children from ages 2½ to 4 can learn the ropes in a safe environment that’s separated from the rest of the mountain.
More experienced riders can head to the Tiehack area of the mountain, where the slopes are more challenging. A high-speed quad will take you to the top, or you can test your endurance like many locals do and power yourself up to the 9,720-foot East Peak on your skis. However you make it to the summit of Tiehack, reward yourself with a visit to the Cliffhouse, a restaurant perched at the top of the lifts with panoramic views of the Maroon Creek Valley. Grab a quick snack or fresh juice, or take advantage of the popular Mongolian grill option to warm up with a hot meal.
Plus, as a frequent host of the ESPN Winter X Games, Buttermilk Park is a great place to test your skills for an adrenaline-filled day—especially on their 22-foot superpipe.
