We loved arriving to this home with its beautiful view, peaceful setting and updated kitchen, flooring and bathrooms. It was clean and cool in the heat of the Summer.

The cabin was the ideal place for our annual mom/ daughter retreat. The sounds of the river surrounded us with a sense of rest, peace and refreshing energy. Everything was clean and ready for our long weekend. We loved our time here and will definitely return!

Great stay on the riverside, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay !!!

Lightning needs to fixed, some of them were working and some were not.
Manager response:
We appreciate you choosing to stay with us, Saravanan. It's wonderful to hear you enjoyed your visit. Maintenance has been tasked with checking the lighting to ensure everything is working properly. Thank you!

Great home!!!!

This place was amazing right on the river with all the great sounds will definitely be staying again

Dog friendly but clean enough, right in the river, relaxing sounds, nice fire wood stove. Had what we needed.
Seth J. Nov 2020
While the view of the river from the home really is lovely, and there is something charming about a ‘rustic’ cabin, the home itself could use some love. If you are looking for a cozy cabin, probably not for you. The wood burning stove is really the only source of heat and because the cabin is pretty drafty, when the fire goes out, it gets chilly quick. Also, firewood is not included. The cabin can technically sleep 6 however, I would say 4 max given the size of the space. For a couple looking to get away together during the warmer months and enjoy a book by the river, this place would be just fine.
Manager response:
Hi Seth, thank you for staying with us! We are happy to hear you enjoyed the home and location! I have forwarded your feedback to the local staff so they can work to improve the house for future guests. We look forward to hosting you again!

The good:
The deck overlooking the river is lovely
-The location is convenient to all kinds of Mt. Hood recreation

The bad:
-The house is quite run down
-The carpet in the living room is old and stained
-The furnishings are Goodwill quality, at best
-The kitchen is poorly equipped
-The neighbor has a cyclone fence running the length of the property and it is prominently posted with "No trespassing" and "Patrolled by security dog" signs. While that is his/her prerogative, it is ugly and unwelcoming

This house has a good location and beautiful river frontage, but it needs investment and upkeep by the owners. Some suggestions -- fresh paint, new counter tops, better lighting, attention to funky wiring, new living room carpet or replace some Pergo and area rugs that can be (and are) cleaned from time to time.

$5K, a couple of weekends of hard work, and a trip to Ikea would give this property a much needed face lift.

At the price charged and in it's current condition, it's not worth it.
Manager response:

We found this cabin when our original travel plans were cancelled due to COVID19. It had all of the amenities that you would need for a weekend stay. It was quiet and peaceful. The sound of the river is tranquil and drowns out the sound of the mountain hwy. Very easy access to Government Camp and Mt. Hood. The WiFi was lightening speed! There are a couple of minor maintenance issues that could be addressed as well as the non working wood stove. Those things aside, it was a lovely stay.
Megan B. Jul 2020
Great location to numerous hiking and biking trails. Beautiful view and sounds from the Sandy River right off the patio!

This cabin was adorable we had a great visit!

We loved staying at this cabin! It’s a perfect place to spend time together as a family, with the wood stove, board games, cozy blankets, and right on the river, we enjoyed every minute.
James R. Dec 2019
Very nice place in the woods on the beautiful salmon river. Place is quaint with a rustic cabin with a retro feel...and CLEAN. We were pleasantly surprised. Lot's of things to do in the immediate surrounding area; especially if you like to mountain bike or fish. Don't forget to enjoy dinner, drinks and live music at the Skyway Pub :)
Nadja T. Sep 2019
Cute, very clean and well equipped little house with just the right amount of luxury that is needed for a weekend with kids. Unfortunately the surrounding is not walkable at all. Two big streets and no sidewalks.
Michael C. Sep 2019
Being right on the Salmon River was special. The sound of the river was great to experience. Cabin had everything we needed to have a great stay.
Kai C. Jul 2019
This place was a great rental, in a rugged outdoors setting and loved the home feel of this place.

Will be renting this again in the future!
Elizabeth T. Mar 2019
We had a great time sitting by the wood stove drinking got chocolate after playing in the snow at Timberline. The cabin was a perfect fit for our family of four. The view and sounds of the river were amazing, too.
Tyler M. Mar 2019
The roar of the spring melt on the Salmon River means we'll be coming back regularly.
Jennifer C. Feb 2019
We loved our time here! It was clean and close to all the ski resorts. The river was amazing. The wood stove is great but we weren’t prepared to chop the wood or dry it out ourselves. The wood left in the cabin was too big and wet. Plus, there. was not enough small kindling to start the fire. We were excited to grill dinner after a day of skiing. It would have been nice to know that that the gas was turned down / off. The dials on the grill have cute stickers but it didn’t help. The coffee maker was also a challenge. There was a handy binder but it needs to be updated with notes to use the wood stove, grill, & coffee pot. Thanks for a fun and memorable birthday weekend. The cabin is adorable. With a few small changes it would be perfect.
Brian M. Dec 2018
Loved the wood burning heater, sound of the river
Jesse T. Sep 2018
Really enjoyed spending time on the back patio, overlooking the river. It was was clean and offered lots of amenities. Overall, very happy with our stay!
Trista G. Jul 2018
My family absolutely loved the place, it was absolutely relaxing listening to the river.
Jordan A. Feb 2018
It is a very fun/historical/and interesting place to stay. Definitely not a lot of privacy but the sound of the river was so peacful at night. The tv was terrible. Like 5 channels and the image was terrible but it wasn’t that big of a deal because we spent most of our time playing in the snow.
Jamie W. Feb 2018
Cute + tidy! Perfect mountain stay.
Belinda D. Jan 2018
Great home right by the river and close proximity to all that Mount Hood and the area has to offer.
Yakov C. Jan 2018
Cute and cozy little cabin. Would recommend.
Chase S. Dec 2017
My family came up from Texas and we got to experience a white Christmas in this lovely home. The house is located right off of the river and you can hear it when you're inside the house. It's incredibly peaceful. The house is tucked back into some trees which makes it feel private. It's also located about 15 minutes from government camp, which has some skiing, food, and shops.

This was a nice place to sit back and relax and get away from it all.
Kari H. Oct 2017
We loved staying at this location. The river view is beautiful, and the sound tranquil. ♡♡♡
Veronica C. Sep 2017
This is definitely the best cabin and town to stay at. This little hidden gem will make you forget about your daily hustle and bustle of daily living. The soothing sounds of the running river just below the property will put you to sleep and give you one of the best well rested nights sleep. You'll wake up revitalized and ready to go explore your surroundings. Wether its hiking the moss covered trees & rock trails, or shopping at local boutiques. I guarantee you'll fall in love not only with this cabin but also with the friendliest locals in this town who are so helpful with suggestions of places to see like the nearby falls. You will not regret your stay here at the Salmon Retreat.
Pat V. Aug 2017
Can't miss cabin in the woods. Great, central location to Mt Hood and area. I would stay again if I were back in the area and I rarely repeat a location.
Judy E. Jul 2017
Cabin, with its rustic nooks and crannies, and nice open kitchen really was a getaway we enjoyed.
Ryan H. Jul 2017
Great cabin to use as a base to explore the Mt Hood area. There are two small sleeping areas in the loft and plenty of room for the group to relax in the kitchen and living room downstairs or on the back patio by the river.
Carrie E. Feb 2017
We stayed with four children. It was great for the weekend. The Salmon River was absolutely beautiful. Would not want to stay with 6 adults as it would be very crowded.
Teressa D. Nov 2016
We found this cabin to be so cozy. It was a great place to stay and relax . We really enjoyed the view and sounds of the river. We would stay there again .
Dawn Y. Jul 2016
Quaint and peaceful
Kendra T. Jun 2016
This cozy cabin was perfect for our group of 5. The wood burning stove came in handy as it got chilly in the evenings when we were there. Plenty of firewood was provided which was wonderful. The cabin itself was very cute and set up very nicely. We had a relaxing and peaceful time there and would return again!
Eric/Anna H. Jun 2016
The overall condition of the house was acceptable. Not super comfy if your looking for a place to call home for an extended period of time. It seems best suited as a base camp for a couple, or a few friends.

It is an open air house. Do not expect privacy here. Not a bad thing for some, just thought it worthy of a mention. For a couple looking to coup up for a couple of days, it's perfect. There Is a house very near, nextdoor. This was not really an issue either, just not a secluded property, although once in the home you will feel secluded, do to the roar of the Salmon River at your doorstep, and beautiful view of it. It does drown out most of the highway noise. The only time we were able to hear it was the occasional open exhaust car or bike, or a siren. There is a fully equipped fire station in Welches. This is a plus for those who are acctive, I'd think. ;) Injuries happen.

The twin beds are not suitable for anyone over 40. Sorry, they're just not. Very lumpy and the pillow supplied for each is sliver thin and wore out. Bring your own pillow, at least.

Over all, my wife and I enjoyed the stay hear. It served its purpose for us. The price is fair. If you want more from a cabin, you will have to pay for more. I would call this cabin, a high value cabin. What it may lack in amenities, it makes up in river view and cool breeze from it.

Visit Government Camps, Huckleberry Cafe for a HUGE breakfast!

This cabin is delightful! It has everything you need, calm, quiet, cozy and enough space for a family or just right for 2!
Izabella S. Apr 2016
The sound of the river is priceless and the location of the cabin is awesome. Most of the areas of improvement that I have would be towards the cleanliness section of the things inside the house such as pillows, sheets, sofas, lounging chairs, etc. but overall it was a great experience and we all enjoyed the house. Thanks!
Manager response:

Convenient location to the mountain
Kaitlin C. Jan 2016
The house was so nice and cozy, we had the most amazing time! It was only a 30-40 minute drive to Meadows for snowboarding, close proximity to coffee shop and grocery store, and a quick drive from Portland! For the 6 of us the house was perfect sized! Very cozy, mountain cabin style home. Can't wait to go back in summer and go fishing out back!
Judy D. Jul 2015
When choosing a vacation rental, being near and hearing the river was a plus - this house had it. Having cable TV, wifi and washer/dryer, also were very important to us - this house had that, too ! the sleeping arrangements were a little different then we are used to, it would be nice to have individual sleeping areas for those of us that sleep lightly or snore. Otherwise, great location to see everything in the area.
Donald W. Jul 2015
When our cabin fell through in Utah literally while in route, vacasa came through. We quickly found three options in a great price range. We chose this little place for the river view and convenience to hiking trails and made a quick left and headed towards Oregon. The cabin was fine and never distracted from us having a fantastic vacation. However we spent most of our time on the trails and not in the cabin. The cabin is pet friendly which was great. The washer and drier worked great too. The cabin is more conveniently located rather than remote and sandwiched between two other properties. If you are looking for a secluded place to spend a lot of cabin time in, this may not be the place for you, but if a great river view is what you want after an active day with family and dogs, then you will be very happy. It was clean and close to stores. However, you need to bring all food staples There wasn't even salt and pepper. We would stay again.
Brittany B. Jan 2015
Awesome getaway, the cabin was so romantic and cozy. It really grew on us. Excited to come stay again, miss it already.
Beth L. Aug 2014
This cabin is very cozy and right above the Salmon River. Access is a little tricky, but well worth it. The sound of the river at night is so perfect.... very nice vacation spot.
Beverly T. Aug 2014
Great Great position along the Salmon River. You hear the river as soon as you get out of the car! The photos don't do justice to the view from inside the house and on the back patio- you have a wonderful window to the Salmon River at this house. Within minutes of Wildwood Recreation Site which has many wonderful trails (that allow dogs on leash!).
Jason S. Oct 2013
This is a great cabin. Plenty of wood for a fire with a nice river outside that drowns out the cars passing on the highway. It is next to another house but nestled in the great town of Brightwood. The cabin was clean with plenty of room to move around. Will be back! Thanks
Angela W. Jul 2013
I went to this cabin for some much needed time to clear my head following my mother passing away. My mom always loved the mountain. This cabin was just what I needed. Very peaceful and very relaxing. The sound of the river right out the windows was great. I wish there was better river access but it was still amazing. I can't wait to go back. Also the staff was great. This was a very last minute reservation and the staff was great to help me. I highly recommend them and Retreat on the Salmon
