Beautiful, Historic Farmhouse & Guest House on Chilmark Pond

Make lasting memories at this Chilmark vacation rental. Sitting quietly by Chilmark Pond and with ocean views from the spacious backyard, and even a private, separate studio for sweethearts, this Martha's Vineyard farmhouse is waiting for your next family getaway or retreat with friends.

While you'll have use of the property's dock on the pond in warmer months with a canoe to use, you can acquire more boats from Book-a-Boat - they'll even deliver! If you prefer to visit a public beach, head to Menemsha Beach (don't forget the provided boogie board) about four miles from the farmhouse. Nearby is also Menemsha Hills Reservation and Waskosim's Rock Reservation for hiking among wild ocean vistas.

At Island Romance, you and your loved ones will enjoy the friendly and relaxing character among the cleverly colored rooms contrasting just right with the exterior's weathered facade. Summers can be spent cooking fresh-caught fish on the gas grill while others converse on the patio or picnic tables.

Curl up with a book from the home's extensive library in the tranquil living room and sitting room. If you feel like indulging in your favorite movies, there's a TV with a DVD player and cable. Play soothing music over the CD player, or bond over board games like Monopoly and Life at the table. WiFi is also provided.

The quaint kitchen will wake you up with its sunny yellow shade. Fix a fresh cup of joe with the provided coffee bean grinder and coffee maker, spread out a family-style breakfast with heaping plates of pancakes and bacon made on the electric stove while the warm breeze blows in through the screen door.

Head up the original farmhouse stairs to the bedrooms after a day on the water. Upstairs, you'll have a spacious queen bed and a relaxing lounge chair in one room and a cute set of twin beds tucked under vaulted ceilings in another. On the main floor is another room with a comfy queen.

For extra privacy, two honeymooners (or forever-honeymooners at heart) may want to take the private studio cottage off of the main house. Dubbed the 'love shack' by the owners, this one-room space is an incredibly cozy spot with a bed and powder room (plus an outdoor shower) surrounded by rustic wood paneling. Altogether, a combined total of eight guests can stay in the three-bedroom main house and the separate studio.

Should you require extra accommodations in June, rent its sister property The Bird's Nest. You'll find two additional bedrooms at this cozy home, upping the occupancy to 12 guests in all.

Beyond Chilmark Pond is the rest of Martha's Vineyard and nearby Nantucket for those seeking a total Cape Cod island experience. Visit the Black Dog Tavern nine miles across the island in Tisbury. Tour the famous lighthouses all over the perimeter. Take a ferry to Nantucket for even more charming New England shops, nature preserves, and beaches.

The house is gorgeous. It is super old (late 1600's one thing said) so has a wonderful feel of history and the kind of things you would never see anymore -- amazing wide floor planking, giant fireplaces in multiples rooms, etc. It was perfectly placed for us for the family reunion we were attending and 6 of us fit well in the house. Chilmark is our favorite place to stay - such a great spot plus close to everything. If you are looking for some fancy, everything new, kind of place to stay, this is not your house. If you love a beautiful old house that exudes years of history in a wonderful spot, this is your house! (I hesitate to write this glowing review because I fear it will never be available again when we come to visit!)
