The Guadalupe River is a summer and winter destination with tubing and flyfishing for the angler, just eight miles away. In the small nearby towns, there is plenty of antique shopping to be done, as well as many dining options from quick taco/barbecue shacks to upscale restaurants. Gruene is famous for the Gristmill Restaurant and Gruene Hall, Texas' Oldest Dance Hall. And throughout the year the area also has festivals like Wurstfest and New Braunfels.
